yes makes it a lot simpler than removing the racing rubber and putting it into the clock and trying to catch them as they can be so easily spooked after traveling so far , we had two fantail doves that were put out on race days to entice them in with a rattle of food in the tin.
My mum was happy as it kept me and my brother off the streets

Think I've got a couple of racing pigeons which feed from my bird feeder too. They have been around a while as they were here last summer.

I've just had a PM asking about the pigeon so that's a nudge for me to give you an update. :)

With thanks for the help from 'Mad Hatter' I have a full name and address of the owner of the pigeon which I passed onto my brother. Unfortunately he's not made contact yet as he's had a lot on his plate recently. I spoke to him yesterday and he will be sending a letter to the owner very shortly and there's a strong possibility ownership of the bird will be transferred to my brother. My brother wishes to use the bird for breeding this coming winter and also to race him next year.

As soon as I hear any more I will update you all. :)

I hadn't forgotten this thread but was waiting for an update from my brother on the Swedish pigeon.

My brother tried to trace the bird's owner through several sources and finished by writing a letter to him, there was no reply. With no way to gain ownership of the bird via re-registration my brother decided to keep the bird, race him and at a later point use him for breeding. Apparently he was a 'quality' bird.

The pigeon was flown in a few races and made very good times on return but unfortunately these times couldn't be recorded because of the lack of registration. Sadly after a recent race he returned badly injured although he had made good time again. My brother said that he had no choice but to end the pigeons life.

Thank you to everyone that took an interest in this pigeon and particularly @Mad Hatter for the help in tracing it's owner.

I apologise for not doing more, things got really busy at my end and I haven't had much time to come by GC. Still, I'm glad that Mr.Pigeon got to have a few last races before his injury, and it was very kind of your brother to keep him, rather than. Just get rid.

                  Thank you for the updates!

Such a shame, rest in peace ickle pigeon.

I found a racing pigeon last weekend with its head missing. Luckily there was a phone number on one of the rings so I rang and let them know he was dead and where I'd found him.

There's no need to apologise @Mad Hatter, you did all you could at the time and your personal life is more important. :dbgrtmb:

It's a shame my brother couldn't make contact with the owner as he could have found out much more about the bird. Why for instance, was the pigeon Swedish owned and not registered there but in Germany? Also that the bird couldn't be traced through the pigeon authorities. It's a mystery and one that won't be solved now unfortunately.

@merleworld you did the right thing notifying the association or owner, thank you. Most racing pigeon owners are always keen to know what's happened to their birds whether sad news or not. :)
