I don't think so as we have one in our garden and the leaves are longer and narrower. The leaves on Johnny's are wider.

Most definitely NOT an Ash. Could be Wych Elm, English Elm, or Beech.

On second thoughts - well, it could be an ash, but I woildn't like to bet on it. The laeves seem to me not to be narrow enoug.

After looking at that site I would definitely say that was it. We would of been even more in shade if that had grown :D

Well by elimination - its not mountain ash cause it doesn't have the leaf serrations. Its definitely not beech or elm. Have just looked at a young ash down the garden and that does look like yours. On mine all the leaves have 4 pairs of leaflets with one at the end. Keble Martin draws his like that but in the Oxford Book of Wild Flowers it has 5 pairs. I would go for ordinary ash but is difficult without seeing it in the flesh. In the flesh I could be 100% cause I have planted 100s of the things.
