      Hello all

As you can see, this Issue has been Moved to its own Thread.

I went into the Front Garden after Rain and had a look at the Dead Areas.

The Grass in those areas came away with no effort.

I know that it has been remarked that the Scarification should not have been the cause, however, the Damage just looks Physical, not Animal, if that makes sense.

      Thanks

      Kevin

      Hello @Perki

      Sorry, I missed your Post.

This is one of the worst affected areas:

      20240925_090841.jpg

I raked the whole Lawn Yesterday and removed a lot of Dead Grass.

Hopefully the Grass will fill in, if not I may just start by Overseeding and see how that goes.

The Lawn is a mix of the following Grasses:

      Dwarf Ryegrass
      Creeping Red Fescue
      Chewings Red Fescue
      Smooth Stalked Meadow Grass
      Common Bent Grass

I managed to find a Grass Seed Mix Online with the exact same Grasses which was fortunate.

      Thanks

      Kevin

Is it possible the patches are the result of birds digging in it looking for daddy long eggs etc? The chief offenders down here are seagulls, blackbirds, and crows?

        Hello

        Thanks for the Reply.

The Damage appeared immediately after the Aeration and Scarification in March so it was not initially caused by Birds.

However, Birds, mainly Starlings are now digging in the Bare areas to find Food which is not helping.

        Thanks

        Kevin

Have you have female dog or fox problems by any chance?

Leatherjackets are a possibility especially as the birds are having a rootle around in the patches.
Rather than digging holes in the grass to findout, you could try covering one of the patches with a piece of old carpet, or an empty compost sack overnight, to bring the leather jackets, to the surface. Next day remove the covering and see whats underneath, if grubs leave for the birds.

          Hello @NigelJ

          You are are spot on.

The problem is indeed Leather Jackets.

          Thanks

          Kevin

Thought it would be leather jacks / similar , I were going to say leave a dark plastic sheet over a wet lawn overnight , leather jackets usually come to the surface. if you are going with nematodes you'll have to be quick time is running out for applying .

It is the leather jackets the birds are looking for. They pull up the grass to uncover them.
