Lots of helpful information, thanks everyone. Longk, I've buried deep some of the Lupins with just the leaves showing. Some of the leaves are turning brown, have drooped & looking bad I'm afraid. I hope the others survive- good to know they may have a chance. I can see I need lots of trial & error to factor into the equation. Freddy, Silu, thanks for the great tips. I just hope I'm not responsible for such a massacre next time! x

Hi Harry, I should have bought a few when I saw them. Thanks for the picture. I tried my germination all under cling film on seed trays which worked well I think. It's after the germination that things went all wrong with the low light & probably too much heat as Freddy has pointed out. Yes, window sill space is valuable real estate!

The other problem with seedlings indoors is the lack of humidity after pricking out. The roots are very small and maybe suffered some damage when they were pricked out. That is where the props that Harry showed are so very useful. Or you can improvise...............

Thank you longk, HarryS. I would need to make small drainage holes and holes in the bottle caps, wouldn't I? The other issue I've noticed is build up of white/grey powdery mould on seedlings. Isn't that due to too much humidity?

        I didn't realise that.
So, bright warm windowsill to get them going, then move to windowsill at the opposite side of the house, where it is cooler, once they have germinated: have I understood that correctly?
(Need to clear a space in a different room if that's the case :heehee: )

In my experience that is down to soil being too damp.

I should have said that the covers are used after pricking out for a few days only.
