    No need for mpc if its in the ground Sarah.
    As I said, it is a fickle form of dogwood.....they can thrive with some folk or struggle and look sick with others. I like dogwoods but not a fan of Midwinter Fire. Not as vigorous as most:)

    @Verdun why do you consider it to be fickle? Could you expand on that please? Please note this is the second time of asking.

    Felt like sending an update on my dogwood. Feel like it's clinging on, just. I soaked the roots, teased out, replanted, sprayed with epsom salts, and watered. Am watering every few days or if it looks dry. As you can see, I have flower buds, but leaves are still drooping...Any thoughts?

    @Sarah Eley
    I grow Midwinter Fire and it took longer to establish than the other Dogwoods I have and it's always been a bit spindly and weaker growing. This does mean that it doesn't try and take over unlike some of them.
    I don't think yours looks too bad at the moment and I would carry on as you are and just let it get established.

    Thanks, Nigel! That's very encouraging. It's not always easy to tell from instructions exactly what to do - I think it's fairly thirsty but that doesn't help me know how much to water it! How much is too much? (For example). I'll keep speaking to it encouragingly. Nice hat, by the way...

    Agree with Nigel, but assess at the end of the summer Sally :) Life is too short to worry too much about this plant. As I said, it can be fickle for many and I would replace with cornus Elegantissima or Aurea if it doesnt improve. These are easy, reliable, vigorous varieties ...to me they are far superior :)

    Ah, but this one must live! It commemorates my recently departed whippet - consolation gift from the fam...

      Update on dogwood. Eventually decided to cut it back to about 18 inches. It has now recovered with steady watering and some Epsom spray. Thanks for helping!
