de la haie is another very good choice, Dan. A friend of mine has some as well as rugosa, and planted them after the rugosa, but they're catching up fast.

Thing to remember though, if you want a good thick hedge, is to keep pruning them top and sides, including the base, to encourage them to bush out and not leave gaps.

Good quick grasses to grow are Miscanthus. I have one that grows from 20cm to 12ft in a season- [IMG]

If i had those houses looking at me i would have to put a pergola up and maybe a summer house with the back facing the windows..and plenty of trees and bushes..Their is no privacy whatsoever..And i am sorry people but i am afraid a couple of leylandi would be going up as well..and some fast growing native trees like elderberry that can really shoot up fast..some pampass grasses and i would cut the garden in half accross the middle and make rooms out of it...dense ones.. :D :D

Bananaman would be a good person to ask re: Miscanthus, as he's got loads of beauties!!!! The new Zebrinus I put in last year stayed small but hoping it will shoot up this year [IMG] So it'd probably take 2 years to get to full size I'd have thought [IMG] But I'm a beginner at this so I'm sure someone else has got far better advice :D You could search some of BMs posts to see the way they grow through the year,he defo posted some great pics - probably on BMs Hideout thread!!! Forgot to add - I did plant the Zebrinus rather late in the year which probably didn't help!!!! But the digging took me rather longer than anticipated [IMG] (my defence, m'lud!!)
If you bung them in in the Spring you'll do a lot better!!!! :D :D
