I wouldn't choose Lavender if I was you @fumanchu unless you can give it some serious shelter . I live in a less exposed part of Scotland than you do and Lavender really doesn't do well here. Knowing the Scottish Border hills well (best friend lives in you neck of the woods) I'd doubt it would flourish. Maybe have a look at Nepeta racemosa 'Walker's Low'. (Catmint) as a possible alternative. It doesn't need nearly as much sun and tolerates poor drainage much more than Lavender.

Silu, would cats roll in it? I'm backing onto a field then its a farm and we get a few farm cats visiting - never cause me any trouble and do a good job when we have rats, but I wouldn't fancy a queue of them lined up every day to roll in my plants  The lavender I have got doesn't look like the lavender other people have, I have to admit it's very poor.

Added to say that I haven't done anything with the garden yet as its been cold (6C today), misty, there's a wind that would slice the skin off you, and I'm rooted to the couch dreaming of a Lottery win and a wee cottage in Provence.......

Hi @fumanchu it think I would go for roses interspersed with some Nepeta catmint rather than lavender as stays low and spreads out. You could choose some patio Roses they are fairly small and covered with flowers. I planted two sweet dream patio roses and they are lovely each year. A honeysuckle draped over the fence would be nice too or even a small flowered rambler trained along your fence instead of upwards.

O help they've all gone in twice lol, I'm clogging up the forum! :help: The Aquilegia are in full bloom and they cover a lot of empty earth.. once they die back I can see where to put in other things. There is half a doz wee lavenders scattered in there now, and some vinca. Up at the field there are self seeded poppies and more aquilegia, plus chives.

We've had 3-4 weeks of good sunshine - unheard of in Scotland! Amazing how much of a difference it makes to life and to gardens. Everything is a lot taller this year. Well except me. I'm still 5ft. :spinning:

That looks really lovely @fumanchu! Gorgeous colours, and they really compliment the outstanding view. I'm in Scotland too, and it's been years since we have had such long-lasting good weather. Even my garden looks pretty impressive, and I keep taking photos of the same things day after day because they look so nice. Well done, and enjoy what you have made!
