to GC @Rob Lloyd Love your pond and how it's evolving "wood/perspex" = cold frame? It's in your favour that you have been there almost a year before asking advice. You've been able to see which bulbs/plants are already in the garden and can plan round those (or not if you prefer ). Some of the things I wish I'd known *after* I'd moved to my current home but *before* I joined GC. Have you allocated a spot for a compost bin? If not, make one - it has proved invaluable in my garden! (I did this first thing in this garden, pre-GC) Water butts? Do you have any? Can you find space for any? Again, something worth considering before you get to the planning route. Veg patch? Try and place it as near to your water butt/source as you can Shed/greenhouse? If you haven't got either and wish to have both, at some point: consider now where they will go if you can't afford them straight way. The two main forums I read on here when I first joined were: Beginners Garden Development Identification Area Golden nuggets they are! Enjoy your visits, there are some lovely people on here (won't name them, but, basically, read the whole members list ): looking forward to getting to know you around the boards Psst! Solved that problem ... now I just write "Hunters"
Thanks for the welcome everyone I'm loving it here already and got lots advice from other peoples questions! I will add some pics and sizes of my garden tomoz. I tried a compost bin last year but it was stinking and covered in flies so I got rid of it. The local skip/recycling center give away free compost, all I need is bags which I got from empty dog biscuit bags so that's ok. Ps I'm a total noob with forums in general so I apologise in advice if I thread in wrong places
[quote="clueless1, post: 757348, member: 15" Have you got any pics of your garden? And any ideas as to what you want to do with it?[/quote] Adding pics from today now
Hi there Rob, glad to have you aboard the Ark. We'll all continue sailing until the floods go down and we can see dry land again. Plenty here to keep you amused until then, Jenny namaste
This is where I was thinking of having my veg plot, it's 1840mm x 2540mm (approx 6ft by 8ft) Not sure how to start, will draw some plans today. Walls need a lock of paint too! The back wall also faces East. View from the veg plot towards the house (ignore the rubbish under the window on the left lol, that's going the skip next week) I LOVE my shed View from the house I don't really have much to spend on it at the moment, plus it's rented accommodation so need a garden that's reasonably easy to 'pack up'
Click on the second oned At the bottom should be a list of things you can do , including "edit ,delete" Just click delete and wait a few seconds. it should disappear when you click on "delete post", Jenny
It looks a pretty neat garden to me, Rob!!! I haven't got one, Rob, due to the fact that I hate giving up space in the garden. So my Garage is my Shed and at the moment I'm having great difficulty in getting inside and getting to the rear due to the fact it's jammed packed with things "I might need later"......I'll grit my teeth and sort it!! I'm not a Veg Man, although I used to be, but that looks like a pretty good spot for the Veg Plot!!
Thanks @ARMANDII I've always wanted a shed, with a lil table to pot and build. And was a bargain at £15! Give 'her' a new coat, now she's looking gorgeous haha. Was thinking of putting some soil on the top and growing a little 'meadow', but that would be very high maintenance?
Probably more trouble than it's worth, Rob, but that's only my opinion You'd need some means of securing it to the roof and it's usually flat roofs that they're on. Plus you'd need to stop it flying away in high winds and bad weather, and then keep watering it when there's a prolonged dry spell..........you get my gist!!
