Grass will die down in Winter though, is that a problem?

There's some quite natty matting you can get for around the edge, to hide the liner (if you want to). Its some sort of "sheet" which has fine gravel stuck to it, you lay it on top and drape it into the water, and the gravel (supposedly!) doesn't fall off, so it looks "natural". Can't remember the name or where I've seen it for sale though, but if its of interest I'll have a more determined hunt.

Actually, Kristen, Bowles Golden has never died down during the Winter in my pond, which is one of the reasons I recommended it.:snork:

That's worth knowing. I've seen the Bowles name recently - was there some seed in the Seed Parcel perhaps?

This is what I was thinking of - "Stone Faced Pond Liner":

No experience of it though, so no idea "how well" the gravel "sticks" the the backing sheet.

Carex Pendula is superb by a pond and stays green all winter. Very tall seed heads on it as well.

Its reasonably fast, but I personally would buy bigger than 9cm pot.

I didn't look closely at the price I'm afraid, hopefully you can buy cheaper elsewhere, or something to give similar effect

Have you had the seed parcel yet joolz? I put some seeds in of Carex Buchananii (leatherleaf sedge) and Carex Comans Bronze if theres none left when it reaches you let me know and I'll add some more next time round, also just been collecting seed of Carex Frosted Curls to add next time round, all really easy from seed, bit of a contrast of foliage :)
