A lot of cruises you can sit on the balcony for as long as you like, do have cabin service or you can go to the buffet restaurant and bring your food back and you wouldn't need a passport for a cruise round the UK.

    So you are sorted! :heehee:

Most cruise companies that 'allocate' cabins only do so if you have picked their special offer of a much reduced price. Otherwise you are able to tell them which cabin you want before actually booking it. I would never book a cruise without picking my cabin. Their travel agent should have advised them.

I have a cruise booked this winter and was able to book one of a number of the choices I had made. It was the class of cabin I was willing to pay for, on the deck I wanted, midships (the least movement noticeable just in case of heavy seas - most ships have stabilisers nowadays) and on the side of the ship I wanted (facing the coast so we have a view whilst sailing).

I certainly wouldn't want one of those internal cabins with no means of knowing if it's day or night.

Do windowless cabins exist? Sounds more like a prison cell.

And what about sea sickness? I had a neighbour who was sick on a cruise due to movement. He had to wear a wrist band - not sure if that was to identify him or to make him feel better.

Sea-bands are worn on an acupuncture point two and a half finger widths below the wrist crease. They really work for me. I have very frequent nausea and carry a pair whenever I leave the house, with another by my bed for in the night. They take acute nausea down to a bearable level, allowing you to sip fluids.

Spike Milligan had a certain cure for sea sickness.

Go and sit under a tree. :)

I'm sure I've seen it state inside cabin on some of the price lists.
Which I assume is a glorified cupboard.

Take your Alexa with you to tell you :roflol:

Some ships have inside cabins but not many.

Sea sickness is very rare. Modern ships have stabilisers and the ships get very accurate weather reports and can usually avoid bad sea conditions - but not all. I have done somewhere near 40 cruises - both working and for pleasure - with only one that gave me seasickness for two days.

They work pretty well and the ship's doctor or shop can always provide seasickness tablets if necessary.

They do tend to be smaller but not that small. Some people like them because they are a lot cheaper and they spend all day on deck or ashore.

There tends to be less vibration in those cabins as they are almost always midships, which is the steadiest part of the ship. Imagine it as a pivot scale around the centre. e.g. a seesaw :)

Modern ships have very little vibration as they use Azipods in which the drive propellers sit. These are not fixed directly into the framework of the ship, as in the older systems, but in a type of suspended pod. These make the ship much more manoeuvrable as the pods can be pivoted in order to change direction. Thus not requiring tugboats for moving them in and out of port.

Even in the old ones the vibration, usually only at the stern, only became noticeable when being driven at higher speeds. Nowadays that doesn't happen as there is a legal limit on going fast because it uses a lot more fuel and is not allowed because of a more deleterious effect on the environment. Most modern ships are much cleaner, environmentally wise, than older ones.

I remember a few years ago being on the ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare. The sea was like Glass it was so calm but the gentle throb of the engines turned my stomach. I spent the entire journey looking at the horizon. That was it as far as boats go for me …..:love30:

Not really been on anything other than a few Sealink ferry years ago.
Back then it was always more fun the rougher the weather was.

@shiney, you aren't moonlighting as a cruise promoter, are you? Tablets for motion sickness can make you drowsy, whereas sea bands are side-effect free ... and reusable. :blue thumb:

That happens on small boats. Cruise ships are somewhat different.

:heehee: No, but I reckon I could do the job OK
