Hi marge, we are going to Marmaris. It`s a lively resort and we`ve been there twice already so we know the place.First time we went everything was great.Central, nice clean appartment etc.Second time, not so good as we were shacked up in a doss house in the wilds of wanny.Ants everywhere, old clothes behind railings never shifted, one shop close by which changed the prices like the wind, badly lit, potholed roads we had to treck to catch a bus to get central and... prostitutes comming and going. It takes alot to shock me but i admit,i was stunned at that. There was a Mosque about 100 meters from the appartment and Lord, did they pray.Morning, noon and night and each time all entertainment would cease out of respect.Music turned off, kids told to Shhhh!which i thought was just a little hypocritical considering they were renting out rooms by the hour.It kind of made me feel guilty about enjoying myself not to mention the worry for the kids.
    Anyway,

we know where we`re staying this time so stroll on sept 3rd.
Cajary,no doubt we will take a trip to Icmeler for the market.I loved it.Beautiful, hand stitched tablecloths and such.I can hardly wait.
Strongy,Cyprus is marvellous.A cousin was married over there and most of our family piled over for it.The churches are extraordinary.I almost cried at the sheer beauty. [IMG]

We had a dodgy experience the first time we went to Turkey too E - but turned out great cos we got on with the hotel owners so well - just a bit of a shock to us at first! We are off to Turgutries this time on the Bodrum peninsula. Have been to the area before - but thats a long story for another time!!

I have only been once to Cyprus in 1979 - it was fabulous then. Ayia Napa was a little fishing village!

This time last year we were frying in Olu Deniz, In-house advisor had food poisoning and we ended up spending a day in Fethyie hospital, she was on a drip for 6 hours, had to avoid the sun and water for three days (that's what we went for!!)
An unpleasant part of an otherwise fantastic holiday and it HASN'T put us off going there again.
Marge, we went to the Turkish part of Famagusta where there is only one hotel open to visitors as the rest were shelled in the 'troubles' in 1970 or so and are still there in ruins today.
The eerieness of it and the numbers of soldiers around might put some folk off but it didn't worry us at all.
Might try the Greek part one day, prefered Turkey and Cyprus to Crete where my brother lives. [IMG]

As I'm about to have my first holiday in ten years, I'm getting excited. We have been invited to spend time with friends in this cottage in Spain ...

We go on Thursday and come back on Sunday and have hired an air conditioned rental car for the journey ... about 4-5 hours.

We have house/cat sitters coming in (a retired couple who strangely enough rented a villa from the people we are going to join) so I've been cleaning the cooker and every nook and cranny I didn't know existed in the house. This has been/is a massive task as we've had builders living with us for two months demolishing/rebuilding five rooms of the house (it was four/now five).

PS I remember your awful trauma last year strongy. :(

I remember reading about your bad experience too Strongy - awful. We went as near to Famagusta as we could at the time and remember seeing the shells of hotels and buildings - very sad. A friend of mine is in N Cyprus at the mo so will be interesting to hear her report when she returns!
LOL - it looks lovely, that little cottage and I hope you have a great time [IMG]

Just back from two relaxing weeks in Denia. We planned to do some sight seeing but it was soooo hot, all we could do was sunbathe, cool down in the pool, eat and drink. [IMG]

We got some bad news when we returned, my old cat Sparkey had gone missing on Wednesday, someone had found him under a hedge in a poorly state, they took him to a vet and they had to put him to sleep. I feel so guilty that I wasn't there for him in his hour of need, we have had him for seventeen years and I am going to miss him so much.

Oh, dear, dalbuie, I'm so sad at your loss of Sparkey after 17 years ... another horror tale of our furry friends that we've been talking about this month ... so many.

My heart goes out to you ... [IMG]

Sorry to read of your loss Dalbuie :(
The only pet we have is my wifes fish, I often wonder how people feel when they lose such a key part of the family especially if "it" has been around for a long time. I couldn`t even begin to comprehend the sense of loss horse owners must feel.

:( So sorry to hear about Sparkey dalbui.. Cats are fickle creatures I think & are a rule unto themselves.. It is quite common if a cat knows it's "time is up" & somehow they sometimes do, some will take themselves off somewhere private to die.. Our last cat lived to 21, so have an idea of your sense of loss.. But don't feel guilty, he is at peace now.. [IMG] Thinking of you..

    Marley.

Thank you all for your kind words, I think you are right in what you say MF, I think that he did go of to die privately when a lady found him under a hedge near to our house. My dad had been frantically looking for him.

I only found out about it all when the day we got back and looked in the local post office window and there was a card asking if anyone had lost a small black cat and a phone number to call.
I was so excited that I rushed back to the house and called the number. The lady that spoke to me made me feel that I had been neglecting him because he was thin and not well. I was so upset that I had to get my hubby to phone her back and tell her that that wasn't the case and he was a very muched loved and cared for member of our family. I couldn't tell her this because I was too choked.
I do feel guilty at the moment because I think I should have been here but I suppose it will pass. I can't quite think of the good times yet without bursting into tears, even typing this gets me going, I suppose that will pass too :(
