home grown flavour

    Indeed. But dinner guests here comment on the flavour of the produce. On a mixed plate, some home grown some bought in, they comment on the home grown (without prompting)

    What no Sweetcorn? others that we prefer are soft fruit, Asparagus, Peas and Beans, beetroot, melons. I expect my Cabbage and Caulis taste like the supermarket :)

    I also think choice of variety makes a difference. We grow low-yield if it has high-flavour, that wouldn't be a commercial option.

    Indeed. What if some chemicals used on shop-bought are going to be found to be harmful and kill you 10 years earlier ... what price grow-your-own then ...

    I worry about that all the time. Key reason why we grow our own, to know the provenance.

    it seems to me it is not about profit but about the flavour, goodness and pride in your own home grown. if it costs more it doesn't matter. it's your own pride and joy
