There's just been another piece on the news about all this. Apparently in light of the situation, increased DNA testing of meat is happening, BUT, only testing for horse. I guess that means there could be other types of meat in there that would go unnoticed. Rat? Road kill?

Incidentally, totally unrelated, but here's a little true story to throw into the mix (pardon the pun). When I was a kid, there was a well documented spate of people's pet dogs and cats going missing from the area, over a period of several months. For possibly unrelated reasons, a local takeaway was quite suddenly closed down by the local authorities. There was never (to my knowledge) a public declaration as to why it was closed without notice, but after it was, there were no further incidents of people's pets going missing.

There was a Chinese restaurant in my home town that was closed down following the discovery of rats in their freezer. Apparently, testing of some of the food from the restaurant also revealed considerable quantities of bodily fluids, with the majority being a male bodily fluid. :eeew:

I suppose this sort of thing is nothing new, but the difference here is that you don't really expect it from the likes of Tesco (not that it would be acceptable from anywhere)

Mr Mum is an ex-prison officer. I asked him (once) if he ever worried about bodily fluids being put in his tea? :eeew:

"I don't think about it!" :nonofinger:

What? That would be an unusual thing for him to put in his tea.

18 yrs ago, there was a spate of cats going missing locally. In fact, over a period of two years (and, bearing in mind "replacements") I had four cats go missing (two returned home in, literally, a deathly state). Nor was I the only one.

        Cause? Yoofs!!

Never be too hasty to point the finger at cultural differences ;) sometimes, the real answer lies closer to home than we'd like to think.
