                Here's some food for thought.

How long would you say meat keeps for? I don't know what the correct answer is, but I don't think meat is still fresh after, say, 4 weeks.

I think it is reasonably safe to assume that as soon as the horse meat fiasco came to light, anyone knowingly taking part would have stopped doing so more or less immediately, at least until the dust had settled.

As horse meat is still being found in the supermarkets and in school dinners now, does that mean that the meat in question is at least 4 weeks old? Regardless of what animal it is, that doesn't sound very fresh to me.

But we are talking about frozen meat . It does keep quite a long time.

A pack of wild dogs broke into Tesco's warehouse last night but by the time the police got there they'd (w)hoofed it.

Delving back into my 'Family Tree', three of my ancestors in the early 1800's had their jobs listed on the census as 'Cat's Meat Vendor'!

It didn't mean that they sold cat meat as there couldn't have been enough cats to make a living out of it. They sold horsemeat as pet food. There were over 100,000 working horses in London (rising to 300,000 in 1890) and, when they couldn't work any more they became pet food, glue etc. I guess that some of the better parts were bought for human consumption.

I think some of my ancestors were in the trade too, Shiney, although they were in the Supply trade and known as Horse Stealer's.:snork:

I have now Jiffy. Makes for uncomfortable reading. I'm so glad I can cook from raw meat that I recognise in my local butcher's shop,

Iceland's Managing Director has just made the statement:

"I wouldn't eat our own brand value meals as there is so little meat in them"

So obviously the meals were so poor that they weren't even going to put Horse meat in them. Remind me not to buy anything from Iceland..........on second thoughts don't bother as I never buy from them anyway.:heehee:
