I wouldn't eat horse. No real reason other than it's not what I've been brought up with. I have to admit to sometimes feeling guilty about eating dead animals, but they taste so good!

A tad "controversial" for those who may be vegetarian or maybe a little squeamish about the whole process of cuddly-wuddlies being a meal.

I took my son to a rural course on how to (humanely) slaughter fowl and rabbit last summer.

I feel (quite strongly) that if you are going to eat the end product, then do so knowing what the whole process involves. Then you can make an informed "judgement".

While he was a bit reluctant, I was quite proud of his ability to get hands on. Despite my own ethos, I did have (physical) difficulty in executing the required "deeds"! But, was introduced to methods to combat that.

Subsequently? I have quackers in need of dispatch and son is totally *not* interested. Maybe because we gave them names? Perhaps because it is one thing to do it on a course and another to do it at home? Or, maybe, because the *need* to cull is a different angle? So, if we were so desperate for food, would he do it? (I think he would!) but, because there is no *need* to do so, he still views them as cuddly-wuddlies? :dunno:

                          Would I eat horse? Yes.
Would I eat dog? If hungry, yes!
Would I eat cat? If hungry, then yes!
Would I eat human? Ah, now there lies a genuine dilema! If it came down to survival; then, maybe!

And, there lies the fundamental argument: the more affluent you are, the more choosey you can afford to be. The poorer/more desperate, then regulations go out of the window.

So: who are these "bargain/value" brands actually marketed to? ;) Scarey!

                              I'm scared. :cry3:

But seriously I agree, in a survival situation you would go back to your roots. (excuse that awful pun). Personally I have a 'rule'.. I won't kill anything unless it threatens my life/well being, or I need to eat it. If there isn't a need, there's no reason to kill it.

I constantly have a go at people in my house for killing spiders because 'they don't like them'... sadly a spider has just as much right to be there as they do.. I don't want to come across as a tree hugger, but that's my genuine opinion.
