Well, guys, I don't sit on my duff all the time ... these past weeks I've been involved in 'rescuing' a horse Sis and hubby and DAG & Linda found on their recent holiday here. They fed the horse for their last three days. Sis then sent me photographs a week after their return home and I put them up on three expatriate forums I am on.

The response was more than incredible ... these pictures may be disturbing but I found someone, Jill, who contacted horse rescuers and they went out and Jill purchased this horse from gypsies ... he was tethered on that short rope and had no food or even a water bucket ...

Yesterday, t'other half and I went to meet and visit with Jill and 'Aramis' who she bought from the gypsies and now lives as of this week in her ruin (15 minutes from us) with Aramis and her rescue dog, a beautiful biscuit-coloured Lab cross called Henry and a ginger and white (female?) cat called Chanti on 20 acres of beautiful lush land and hills with a stream and Aramis now runs free.

Jill is a horse person since age seven and says this was once a family horse and he is so, so people orientated and came when we called and stood next to us all afternoon.

This was him yesterday in his new home ...

New friendships have been forged all around here.

Thank you Peri for your kind comments.

This was a very, very, very mistreated horse as you can see. I am not a horse person but my Sis (Kedi-Gato from Germany) loves them so I took up the cause.

I think friendships have been forged by this 'rescue' and Jill and I will certainly be freinds and as and when Sis (and perhaps DAG) comes back to Portugal again she will love the new environment of Aramis.

It makes me feel good that I have done something worthwhile.

Peri, thank you again for your kind words.

Jill and I will keep in touch so more pics with be forthcoming.

Jill has named the horse Aramis after the 3 Muscateers ... what is it? strong and gentle? Not good on this one ..

We went to visit today and took a load of goodies and then brought Jill back to ours to use the Internet, do a load of wash and have a HOT shower. She likes the photos I have taken and has agreed that I can put them up with her on them ...

Here was Jill last week with Aramis and Henry the rescue dog ..

And here is Aramis today ... he was in the lower pasture and Jill called for him to come for a carrot ... but the secret is rustling a carrier bag ...

And after the following photo Jill put a carrot in her mouth and Aramis gently took it from her ... but I had the camera turned off ... :dh:

    Update next week ...

What a difference in his appearance now, Sis! Well fed and with a loving and caring new owner, he looks like a completely different horse. Well done Jill on making him look as happy and sleek as he does and always should have.

Great pics, Sis, and thanks for letting us all know how he is doing. xx

After looking at the early photos of Aramis I have tears in my eyes. Thank God you and your friends came along just in time. The improvement is stunning. What a lucky, lucky boy! Sadly there are thousands of ill-treated horses and donkeys all over the world it makes my blood boil!!!!

        Well done you!!!
