The North West has been saved in the nick of time:

"The first hosepipe ban of the summer that would have affected seven million people in England has been called off."

      Summer hosepipe ban called off

Hello John, it's been called off because they know they're losing more water through leakages than what an average household uses through out England:)

I don't see how that can affect a hose pipe ban, Gail.:dunno::doh: It's been acknowledged by the various Governments, Water Companies, and has been public knowledge for decades that we lose around 3 Bilion litres of water each day through leakages, so what's changed there?? :dunno:
Prolonged hot weather, very little rain, and increased usage of water due to the heat had dropped reservoir levels but now some of the recent rain has topped it up somewhat.:coffee::snorky:

I doubt summer rains, unless excessive will have much effect on the water situation.
Summer rains are usually gobbled up by vegetation.

I'm thinking some of the water problems up North we mostly based on not being able to process the water fast enough for demand, rather than an actual shortage.

We had a 3 hours period of rain last week and the grass on the roadways, etc tried to come back showing a bit of green, but is now changing back to desert brown..:wallbanging::snorky:

I think they said that one of the main reasons for introducing a hose pipe ban in the north west was because of the amount it took to tackle the moors fires.

We're the same as you @ARMANDII , we've had just about three hours of rain on Sunday and that's it for three months.

Hello ARMANDII I was speaking in the terms off...how can they put bans on water usage...when they know they're at pure fault themselves with the loss of water going daily through pipes not being mended :)

The heatwave will be back with a vengeance over the next few days so in those areas where a hosepipe ban was intended I think it is merely delayed. :noidea:
Politics played a big part I think in postponing the hosepipe ban......i.e. fat cats and their salaries whilst water was leaking in large quantities made for poor publicity.
The rain here, persistent and heavy for a couple of days, did a lot of good. :)Growth subsequently has been amazing and the soil seems to have retained much of it.....so far:)

The Independent (which is usually the opposite to The Express) suggests the hearwave is about to end

The UK's heatwave will come to a close after final burst of sunshine

"As the new week arrives, sunshine will ultimately give way to rain and thunderstorms across much of the nation as cooler air moves in from the Atlantic."

Our water supply company's outlet from the underground hilltop reservoir that supplies us lower lying villages burst 3 days ago, emptying it and cutting off many 1,000's of homes.

Less than 24 hours after 'fixing' it, their repair failed and drained the yet reservoir again.

They still haven't fixed their leak and are using tankers to top up the reservoir with half a million litres of water a day, but it's still draining away almost as fast as they can fill it.

And they are still issuing advice to gardeners on how to reduce water usage :wallbanging:
