If you want to keep on doing that you need to, also, think about how you store the population !! (and feed, fuel, house, heat and clothe them ...)

Tankers filling a reservoir has got to be crazy, the evaporation rate must exceed the added water on a hot day.

our local water board have obviously got more water than they know what to do with as a house down the street has had gallons pouring out of the stop cock in thier drive for at least 7 days:scratch: i think all of us in turn have reported it...and nothing....I don't know who lives there but at first thought they could be away but nope....in the end someone actually rang the police who in turn stood stareing at it for an hour or so....don't actually know the ins and outs of the situation but it's now fixed....what ever the excuse IMO it's not good enough:mad:

I'm waiting for the "Greens" to work this one out.
Do they ever mention the fact that there are too many people?

Because that is the basic problem, any tinkering around the edges is just political point scoring.

Well you have 23 days now to buy the cheap green plastic dustbins at homebase, and fill them all up
Buy a down pipe water transfer kit to first barrel in row, buy now, before the price on Wednesday is somehow increased by £40. Must be the cost of putting more on the shelves that week :)

Fens, you should have drunk water today and saved the Vino for the draught months

If they are on a meter, and the leak is on their [i.e. the property] side of the stop cock, then its their problem not the water board's ...

          Have to agree.
Compulsory registering of the father on the birth certificate and tax breaks for anyone with just one child or less. It's such a thorny issue this one - best stop now!:sofa:

How much is a cubic meter of water.
Just received my water bill for the year unmetered.
It suggests I could save large amounts of money by paying them to install a meter.

But at no point does it say how much 1000ltrs of water costs.

I pay a bit more than a £1 per cu.m. Someone the other day said £1.50 I think.

Perhaps published on their website ?

Would be nice to get a meter fitted just to work out my usage, then decide which way to jump.:)

I think we get compulsory meters sometime in the next twelve months any way, so no way am I paying them to install one.

I've just had a look at Southeastern water website, apparently we dont get meters until 2015.
I did notice something a bit iffy though.
It says that if your electrics are earthed on the water pipes it may become in- effective once a meter is fitted.

And it's down to the house holder to get this sorted at their expense.

On my last bill Thames charged me £1.15 per cu m for water used plus £0.53 per cu m for wastewater.

I changed to a meter years ago when there was an offer on, they fitted meters to all the houses in the street for free and we could have a years trial, we could go back to paying as if it was unmetered if that was proved cheaper. Anyway, it was a lot cheaper for us to have the meter. It depends on the rateable value of your house and how many people in your family and if they all take long baths twice a day etc etc. Every one is different, I think we have had this debate before and some people thought they were better off and some didn't.

I pay £15 / month for water and sewage on the meter which I think is quite low, we were paying much more than that years ago when we were on the fixed rate.
