What is the June drop? The tree dropping its blossom?

The June drop is when the tree naturally thins itself by dropping some of the small fruit, if too many have set.
You then go round after that point and thin them a bit more if the tree looks overloaded still.

Its called the June drop, but it often happens late June early July down here, might be mid July up your way.

My tiny apple tree (basically a 100cm Stick with leaves) was so full with apples, it was leaning dangerously to one side.
Didn't have a June drop. Not even in July. A lot of apples fell in an event I call the accidentally-bump-a-wheelbarrow-into-it-drop though.

My apples have actually turned out wonderfully. They are sweet and juicy if a little small, but next year I will thin them out a bit after the spring drop. I have a grease band ready to apply later in the season and I will do a bit of winter spraying with a Neem oil solution.
It was only the early-season apples that were damaged for some reason.
