I have to agree with Jenny, Woo. Not really up to your usual standard. I think that what grabbed your attention and prompted the shot was the clouds, but you ended up in the original shot with a lot of plain blue and some buildings and a bit of cloud.
Your cropped and mono conversion is very much better but the foreground is still a distraction. Chop off the bottom and have a play about 'tweaking' the clouds and I think you might produce an image that is quite interesting.

Good on you for posting it and keeping this thread alive - well worthwhile:yay:

      Yep
Thanks Woo - I am learning a lot here - I cannot take a good photogaph to save my life, great idea, to critique shots as a learning tool! I am now tempted to play with my old EP1!

We spent a week on Skye at Easter and passed some spectacular scenery but seldom found places to stop for a 'snap'. This one was taken on the way home.

A bit to much light in the background I think Woo. You ought to have a chat with your plant and tell it - it's not Christmas!

Super crisp focus Woo and nicely composed too  But a wee bit over exposed. I don't think the 'blown' background matters, but the whites on the flowers are a fraction, and I do mean a fraction, over exposed.
Now that's me being really picky, but you did ask 'How good is my photo?' I really do like the photo as is; the sharp lines and curves of the petals are extremely well defined and look great. Crop it and I can imagine it would make a nice print.

Good morning Sheal and Dave your honest and valued comments are much appreciated my friends, thank you:smile:

Sheal my friend,I did think of placing a coloured card behind the subject but changed my mind ,but I will get some for the future;)
Dave my friend,it is your eye for detail that I appreciate and if we are less than honest with each other, then we would just carry on making the same errors ;)

I found that in Scotland virtually all the stopping spaces had extensive tree planting between them and the view we'd stopped to take a pic of. Another irritation was that every single one of the signs read something like " stopping space 15o yards", but were spaced from anything like between half to twice that distance.

What really annoyed us on that last trip was the amount of litter in the stopping places. A contributary factor being that the councils have removed most of the litter bins!

I thought about taking some and either sending to the press or Visit Scotland. Now wish I'd done it as the piles of trash are hardly set to welcome visitors particularly during what is being punted as the Scottish Homecoming year!
