It's a nice photo Kaz, exposure and focus are spot on. Only suggestion I'd make, and it's a very personal and subjective suggestion, is that the compostion is a bit 'bottom-heavy' and cropping the base would produce better balance with about one third foreground, a third mid-distance and a third background.
This is what I'm suggesting >

Its a good shot, no blown highlights and decent detail in the shadows, whether you crop or not is up to you. The crop would balance the photo more but to my mind is unecessary, I actually like that bit of grass in the foreground.

Only change I would make is a slight "Hue and Saturation" adjustment, very slight..just to put some "pop" back into it.

Hi All, just noticed this thread this morning an had a read through. As you can see from my avatar I am interested in breeding chickens for the different coloured eggs they lay. Lately I have been concentrating on birds which lay blue and green egg colours and I find it incredibly difficult to take a photo without them looking white.

Any hints and tips at all. I am a point and shoot type photographer. My camera is old it is an Olympus SP-560UZ and I have only ever used it on AUTO :dunno:

Hi Sue its a good camera and it should be OK on auto white balance, but you could always experiment and use one of your preset white balance options just a suggestion but maybe one of our friends will have a better suggestion:)

when i actually took this shot i actually spent more time on focussing on the reflection (obviously i did look at the rest of the shot but it was the reflection i really wanted to capture and i think i did this quite well .....

Not at all Woo, the bridge gives depth and shows it is a river in the background, without the bridge we could guess its a harbour or lake.

If I may be so bold Woo,
I would have liked the bridge to have been more in focus but then it would'nt have been synonymous with your caption really would it?I love old graveyard and cemetry shots though. The lichen on old headstones is fascinating isn't it

                  Thanks Steve much appreciated:)

Hi Jenny I did think about that but it was very dark and I only had my 70 x 300 lens with me which only gave me a choice of F4.5 to f5.6 and a very limited depth and of field and no trypod as I was primarily after a squirrel which I had seen earlier in the week, well Jenny that's my excuse so I'm sticking to that;) and the squirrel was to quick for meas well:heehee:

Your second photo really grabs my attention Kaz - it's very 'architectural' with a really interesting contrast between the straight hard lines of the posts, fences and buildings and the soft varied curves of the grass embankments.

I thought I'd put this 'clever' picture on for comment, it was taken by a Facebook friend of my husbands.

I'd just love to know how this was done. Can't have been a long exposure or the birds would be blurred. Has to have been a good bit of 'photoshopping' and two photos combined. Looks great though!
