How Much Shade for Hellebores?

    I have hellebores in sun and in shade (dappled), they all seem to grow anywhere but they do like a nice deep bark/leafmould mulch which I think retains moisture better. I've also noticed the seedlings do better with that too, they develop good branched roots about 2" long by the time the true leaves appear but because they're in mulch and not the compacted soil they're easy to lift and pot on. I cut back the scruffy leaves when I notice seedlings under the mature plant, seems to work.
