    Regarding purchasing.

I much prefer using a nursery as opposed to the garden centres, although as you know, you can get some good offers. Car boot sales are a good source.

I find the garden centre prices for herbs a trifle over the top and was lucky in my last house in Cheshire, England to live only 15 miles from a little old chap who used to grow herbs for sale, just to keep him occupied. If you purchased any from him, they were in terrific condition and very, very reasonable.

Alas we no longer live near someone like him, neither do we live anywhere near a nursery.

I don't like to spend a huge amount of money on plants, I generally don't buy them from big shops either, usually market ones or seeds from a few friends who garden.

My 50 quid limit would only be reached very, very rarely and only if I couldn't grow from seed. What I really enjoy doing is taking cuttings or dividing plants and growing them on. Just successfully got 6 new lavender plants from the original and gave some to a friend.

This may be slightly ambitious but if I can't grow it myself it has no place in my garden :)

    Hello,
I think that I could spend even 40 pounds for a plant if it's a very rarel plant! :) Mostly have plants for free from my friends garden.

I didn't used to mind spending £15 or so on a shrub, but my last two died whereas the cheap ones flourished.

I have just ordered some Heucheras, the cost of carriage is £10 for up to £50 worth, over that £14!

As I want the plants, that's the cost, as they do not appear to be available elsewhere!

    Cheers!

I like to see things to grow from zerro. I wouldn't pay for a plant what you can't shape as you want.
