Wow. What a shame. Any hospital interaction has to have a person that will ask lots of questions. Health care system is poor in general.

Another MRI scan today - no displacement and going as well as expected. More painkillers prescribed.

Don't blame the staff blame the system.... I think the poor people who work in these departments are under far to much pressure. Is it acceptable ? No of course not and I understand your frustration.

Speedy recovery wishes from me .

              I see that I haven't updated this thread in a while. So here's the story;

Six months on we still attend for a monthly scan and appointment with the consultant. However, about ten weeks ago she was assigned to a different (Italian) consultant and this is where it gets interesting. When I said that I was surprised at the lack of progress in what was "just" a fractured vertebrae he looked at us quizzically and said "it is not a fractured vertebrae, it is three fractured vertebrae and two are extremely bad. This is why we have you in for regular scans".
He then proceeded to start from scratch - what advice regarding care have you had, did anyone talk timescale with you etc. When he asked about family history regarding osteoporosis he was livid - she had not been asked (her mother and a sister have it) and was immediately on the phone telling radiography that she would be having a fancy x-ray today (as in that same day) and arranging for blood and urine tests - the one bit of good news is that she is free of it.
She now knows what to do regarding posture and exercise, has more effective painkillers and most importantly she now knows the truth about the "two broken ribs" that were first diagnosed.

              What a disgrace.

What a shame, no it is not the system, it is the people and education, and caring person or not. Been in the health care field for over 40 years, you can tell when a person actually cared about learning his trade or wanted to skim by. I have worked with plenty of nurses, some I would give my new born to others not even a rat. It is hard to discern by the lay person who is telling you all you need to know. The only advice I can give you is do research, ask questions etc. I once told a doctor to stick it when he wanted to start me on birth control pills at the wrong time of a cycle---really are you so dumb. You have to be your own advocate. once a doctor wanted to start one of my consumers on a medication that I know she reacted to the last time, stood right there and said NO, way doctor, and told him.
It is good you found someone, even by accident. hang on to him.

                  Yes and no.
Our NHS is over managed but under-staffed on the "shop floor". At nursing level there are still plenty of people who truly care but as we enter the doctors sector there are too many that now view it as a career first and foremost rather than a vocation.
The same thing with teaching - it is a career to them. Books are rarely marked which means that pupils who are struggling are spotted too late.
I'm not saying that they should be paid peanuts but they should not be doing it for the money and aiming to hit their targets just to protect their income.

Good afternoon @longk my friend I have to disagree with you on both counts yes there might be a very small percentage of people that are money orientated but in a capitalist society you will you get this in all walks of life in my experience;)

I'm puzzled as to why you're livid as I assume that you're not a teacher.

Based upon looking at my stepsons (and my brother and sister checking my nephews and nieces) school books. Four weeks was the earliest and five weeks about average based over the three schools. When I asked about it at parents evening I was told by one teacher that it would be impossible to do them more often.

@wiseowl - I still walk and talk with our old family GP from time to time and it was he who used the word vocation to explain his thoughts on one of the fundamental problems in the NHS. He's eighty five now so I'll concede that he is very much old school but his insight into his profession carries more weight with be than a newspaper editorial or a politicians sound-bite.

Anyway, I wasn't looking to start an argument so apologies if anyone is offended.

The consultant that she is seeing now has been fantastic and, most importantly, open and honest. Full recovery is still some way off though.
On the plus side....................... I broke the fourth vertebrae when I was eighteen and really struggle when I get up in the morning leading to her and my stepson referring to me as Quasimodo! Matt fractured a vertebrae a couple of years ago so Quasimodo now has a couple of mates :heehee:

Ohhhh here we go :nonofinger: don't generalise...

There are teachers out there who do the bare minimum, yes. Believe me, I've had some of the worst teachers around when I was at school. The issue is all the teachers who are doing things properly (possibly 90% of them) go unnoticed and get branded with the same brush based on what people have heard. But let's face it... we only really hear about the very good and the very bad.

Those teachers put in extra effort and get generalised by the actions of the bad teachers then have to face the same consequences... just sayin' :noidea:

@CharlieBot are you a teacher by any chance?

@longk We don't really know each other but I wish your other half a speedy recovery and for you both to get back to normal soon :)
