    FANTASTIC here all day today!
Trouble is I worked as hard as I could, then absolutely nmackered then put my sun glasses on - only to decover that you see a different set of weeds when you have sun glasses on.

Oh getting quite depressed about it all now.

    Hi there hex,
so you have the summer solstice as your birthday too? I love having the longest day for my birthday. Happily, here in Glasgow it is bright and sunny at the moment, hope it lasts the next few days as I am facepainting at several gala days. Its just not the same when it's pouring.

Waco I discovered the secret of weeding a bit ago - if you dense plant then if any weeds continue, you only see them when they are big and a doddle to get out.

So all I need to do is take a stroll down the garden once a day - and pluck the odd one that jumps out at me. Suits my plantaholic nature too :D

After see the mercury nudging 24C here today it's hard to believe that nine days ago we were camping (in a van) near Fort William in the rain with temps around 7C and seeing snow falling on the mountain tops.

(We got married on 21st Dec - Longest night :D

So agree with you Fran.. Dense planting with no bare earth. Pull any weed that dares to grow when its big enough to know what it is.

What a difference a day makes! Suddenly its summer and only yesterday we were moaning about the cold and the wet and the wind! Now I shall be moaning about the demanding watering regime of the pots and hanging baskets! Every year I say that I'll do no more baskets, yet every year I always do.

Some plants are already showing signs of heat fatigue, but not this gorgeous poppy:

Not come across this Strongy, is it growing in one of your greenhouses.
I like the flower, and if its scented aswell thats a bonus. Did you grow it from seed or cuttings?

It has been in the garden since I bought it 18 months ago. It took down to -5c in Feb/march during those cold spells and although evergreen the leaves went yellow and brown all over but despite losing many leaves it has produce an abundance of flowers and new leaves are coming on as well.
The scent is amazing, literally like a banana but you have to be close to appreciate it. [IMG]

I love Michelias, you were very lucky to find one in your garden. I think if I get some they'll have to be potted, as my garden went down to -12C twice this winter. :(

Yes pete, I was amazed, but 2 different max. and min. thermometers said the same, one is a mercury one and the other a coiled spring one. I was expecting it to be warmer here than Cambs. Weymouth isn't that far, either.

This year I lost a bougainvillea which had survived several years in Cambs. in my little plastic green house overwinter. Can't account for it!
