    Thats right walnut, they are really easy to damage, I've made cuts in mine just shovelling the sand or ballast or whatever out of them with a shovel.

    You are right, of course, but ... Sheesh! ... what a waste!

    At the place that my Father worked they used to produce products in large drums that was exported to Africa (must have been 30 years ago, or more). They were rather proud of the fact that their drums (with company name brazened all over them!) were put to good use - rainwater catchment, and all sorts of creative ideas, and had some long and serious meetings when the Customer asked them to switch to bulk one-tonne bags about the damage this change might do to the local re-use ... they needn't have worried, apparently, as the next visit to the Customer found the countryside littered with awnings of one sort and another keeping sun and weather off storage :)
