    hi all,
when looking for a dog 10 years ago we went to our local rspca and filled in all the forms then went home and waited for an inspection....

That was 10 years ago and they have never called on us to do the inspection.

We now have a lovely dog called morgan and 3 cats that were all rescued from certain death.

Last year my neighbour took her cat to the rspca as she(the neighbour) was getting too infirm to look after her and all the rspca could offer was to put her down even tho she was a healthy 4 year old neutered cat!

I will never ever deal with the rspca again!!

I have heard quite a lot of disparaging stories about th RSPCA. It is the reason why I chose to go to the Cats Protection League for my kitten Poppy who is now a healthy and extremely pesky 6mth old cat who is very loving and good natured.

My advice would be to ask your friend, or for anyone else who is in a similar position to speak to them.

PS She is going for neutering on Monday, and they have sent me a voucher for the cost of it ( or rather they sent it straight to the vet)

We have a similar agency her, (a no-kill agency) Called Cat Angels. They have a league of women who go out with "have a heart traps" to trap ferals to get fixed, then they take them back to release in the same area. They helped me when I rescued 7 kittens, by de-worming for free and early vaccinations free. I just had to keep them, until 14 weeks then took them to a local vet with spayed/neutering certificated got them all done, and put an add in the paper selling them for $85.00 each to good homes. I socialized them well, and trained them to the scratching post, and to let someone clip their nails, holding them very often. So cute.
We kept two from that litter. One thing in America, is the lack of information about de-clawing cats.
Oh, it is my platform, and every chance I get to tell someone what it really is, I am there.
People here, who don't know, think, "Oh its just pulling out the nails". Then I get preachy.
I now have an added information to tell them, that the Fancy Cat Association of America does not believe in it. I know its because Americans are lazy in so many areas when it comes to care and proper training of their pets. Its a shame.

Why on earth would I de claw my cat Red?

Maybe this is one of those American things, but in England it is considered mutilation for the convenience of owners.

Well, some folks don't know how to divert a cat from clawing their furniture. And some folks think their cat will claw their babies. You do know what de clawing is right? It is actually waking off the first joint of the paws.

I must admit I don`t know exactly what de-clawing a cat entails, but I presume, perhaps incorrectly, that it invoves surgery and the removal of the claws and the bone they are attached to.

I don`t have anything I am more attached to than my puss cats in my house-I would choose no pets at all rather if that were the case, and I haven`t found my cats have been scratchy toward the kids-two of which I have brought home as new born babies to my eldest cat who was more interested in cuddling down to sleep alongside them than harming them-in fact, she tolerated my eldest daughter fluffing her up like a pillow and going to sleep on her.

It sounds inhumane to me, spaying is absolutely necessary as millions of unwanted (by humans at least) kittens are born each summer-I can only home so many LOL, but taking off their actual claws, excuse me if offensive, but it sounds despicable, just to save a bit of carpet.

Oh it is MUTILATION at the convenience of the owners, and yes it is a lazy American thing. Although declining a little, it is still here, and vet still do it. It is a top preaching platform I verbalize at any given opportunity. And none of my nine are, and the homes I placed my rescued guys in do not, I made sure of that, or they would not leave me.
