Not if they're from the mouth of a Pleb!
Clearly if it comes from a member of the ruling elite (ie; a government chief whip) it would indeed be derogatory.

With all this politician and banker malarkey, no one seems to be having a go at estate agents and secondhand car dealers any more!

As we're all being so tolerant at the moment I thought I'd put this up on the thread. Tom Lehrer wrote, and performed, this almost 50 years ago.

Yes Shiney I remember him well, his views then underneath the jolly piano vamps and atrocious slant rhymes of his ditties lurks a deep, dark hatred and distrust of humanity, and the bitter tragedy that is modern life: people are foolish idiots, governments are corrupt and ineffectual, and complete annihilation is only one botched political conflict away a very pessimistic view of the world. I believe he is 85 now.

I always felt sorry for him as I have always been an optimist;)

I think of it in a different way. He wrote satirical songs as a response to the cynical way the government of the times was shafting the people (something sounds familiar here). He used it to convey an underlying message of contempt, not for himself, but of the corrupt and thoughtless ways of the people in power.

He didn't write much after the mid-sixties and concentrated on teaching maths.

Easy guys, I'm not coming! :roflol::roflol:
Although you're such a welcoming bunch, and I'd love spending some time with you.:wub2:

But a gardener stays where the garden is.
It's a simple truth, so you can teach people to be gardeners or fruit and vegetable growers and send them back to their native land.
Land cultivation is the 'anchor' for a nation's settling in a territory of its own, not yours. ;)

If you haven't thought of gardening that way, it could be your strongest 'political instrument' in this case. And if you send even a handful of Bulgarians back here, equipped with the appropriate skills, it'd be a win-win move for both the UK and Bulgaria.

Before communist rule (1944), Bulgaria had been very strong in agriculture and viticulture, but that tradition was brutally disrupted. It's a long and sad story. My grandparent's crop fields and vineyards, cattle, horses and cultivation machinery were nationalised and whole communities, tens of thousands of people were forcibly displaced and had to migrate to the cities, to pursue the Communist Party's policy of 'industrial and urban development'.

Nothing came out of it, except that a whole nation's offspring was uprooted from their customary livelihood. While, since those years and after the fall of communism, the passion to emigrate to a West-European country grew to be an ever-chrished myth, the ultimate perception of 'personal success' and life fulfilment.
Today, Bulgaria is faced with a devastating demographic crisis and the low birth rate is coupled by the rush to take advantage of 'the free movement of people', and has been, for the past 30 years or so. If it's much easier to enjoy the benefits of someone else's system of social welfare, why take the pains to establish a system of your own!?

So, I fully subscribe to your effort to make the 'system-entry' requirements more challenging. I'd do the same in your shoes.
