There is plenty of disolved lead in the sea already, the weights we use don't contribute much more to that. Thats why lead is only banned from freshwater fisheries.

Bit snaggy of Hastings Pier then ? Been to Hastings a lot, but never fished it. Any good ?

Yes, I fished at the end of the first part of the concrete harbor. It was a bit snaggy but most of that was due to the harbour being broken into 3 parts with all the rubble lying on the seabed. It wasn't a bad place to fish as I caught Pout Whiting, Silver Whiting, , Congers, Dogfish, Mackerel and loads of crabs! In June the Mackerel would move in to herd and trap the Whitebait against the harbor and the shore and all the folks would come down to collect those that had jumped onto the beach to escape the Mackerel - quite a sight!! I was fishing there when one of the fishing boats [skippered by a bloke called Oxo] came in with a big German bomb caught in the nets after snagging on an aircraft wreck. There were a lot of wrecks out there so it wasn't all that rare for it to happen. Anyway, the bomb squad had to wait until the low tide happened to disarm it. There's a pub called the Anchor on the other side of the beach road and despite being told to leave for safety none of the regulars did because they knew some wag would drink their beer while they were gone!

:D Sounds good, congers of any size ?

We get the same around Weymouth with the torpedoes, closes the town/harbour down for a while, we just stay out on the pier till its dealt with.

Get the same with the Sprats & the Mackerell at West Bay:thumbsup:

Nothing to big in the Congers. I think the best was an optimistic 20lbs but I had some decent cod in double figures. The only trouble with Cod is it's got such a big head! I used to meet the fishing boats coming in and get thing like Pollack and Coalfish off them for giving them a hand. I remember being given an Angler Fish and taking it home. We cooked it - not bad!! The mouth on it was huge and it wasn't the most handsome fish in the world!!

    Hi Karaman,

Anglers can't help it once fish have been mentioned :D

Sardines are good, they mature quickly & don't have so long to build up toxins. We catch them in the summer from the Chesil Beach. they are much longer than the tins they come in from the shop.

Glad to be of help with the plants, let us know how you get on with them :dbgrtmb:

Not sure if this is what you mean but we got some sprouting beans from b&q for adding to stir fries - they grow in a jar - mung beans says on the pack.

This is a very old thread, the opening poster hasn't been seen for 2 years.
