Sorry folks but I think Hellebore as well. The leaves just don't look right to me. If I remember rightly Peony leaves don't come up from the soil singly like they are in your first pic.

Mine too but there doesn't seem to be enough leaflets on the leaves. I went with the Peony as young tubers do chuck up just a leaf or two in the first year or two.

Ugh, what a bore, the leaves have opened up a little more, there are 7 coming directly from a central end point of the stem and the leaves are slightly serated. Suspicously like the hellebores I have where they belong in my woodlandy bit and another damp shady area.

It appears I have made a grand feature in my Long Border of a hellebore :wallbanging: :roflol:

        Hanging up me hat ...

Blame the birds for spreading the seed about!

Well, the hellebore hastily dug up and casting around for something potted up to put in its place and it ended up being F. Dollar Princess (not a fave of mine but madly in pre-trip washing/packing/ironing/faffing so no time to buy something suitable), so I've added yet another odd quirk into the new 'zany riot of colour' border :heehee:

We'll look forward to seeing your zany, riot of colour' border in flower GG. Assuming you will let us see it. :) I mix colours in my beds and surprisingly they don't seem to clash.

The only people who tell you you shouldn't mix certain colours together are overpaid garden designers, mother nature doesn't use colour schemes.

I agree Jazz Si. :) It's fine to restrict colours if there is availability of ground, unfortunately most of us don't have an estate and smaller gardens have their restrictions.

Yes I agree, colours can be boldy used successfully. And a matter of personal taste comes into it.

Also my vision for that particular bed has always been plenty of foliage plants, with predominantly white blooms and the odd splash of colour. We shall see, it might be a rip roaring success.
