Just out of interest, those are called the inner drum, the spindle is called a spider.

Thing is they often get sold as s****, as you said they are stainless steel, the inside is "as smooth as a babys bum" In order not to rip the clothes, but the outsides can be rough (nothing an angle grinder can't fix)

in hard water areas, they can be covered in lime scale.

Tip, if you see a hotpoint engineer (parked up) ask him is he doing a drum change? they are happy to get rid of them rather than carry it in the van all day

The outer drum (plastic thing) also makes a very good plant pot, i put log roll round mine.

I may be out on a limb here but how do you feel about all commercial vehicles being banned from parking over night, on roads, in residental areas.

Pete, What about the self employed guys with vans?

I rekon Glens idea is the best, second to tarmac.

Glen I have to confess I have a beautiful inner drum from my 2yr old washing machine although I had to hide it from Bob as he throught I was mad keeping it for a funky plant container.

Needless to say I still haven't found 'THE' place for it and I have to hide it away from the many merandering s**** men in the area! Hel.xxx.

Pro, if your self employed you should have somewhere to park your vehicle, off road at night, in a residential area
Sorry mate but thats how I feel, we have far too many people parking large vans etc. outside other peoples houses and making housing areas look like lorry parks.
I know of some that even park "their" vehicles down the road a bit so it dont bother them.
Selfish or what, if its got writing on the side it has no place in a residential area, and especially not, on the grass outside someone elses house.
If you can get it in "your" driveway and its not above Transit van size, then its not so bad.

Pete, I agree. I live in a cul de sac and sometimes we can have as many as 6 or 7 vans and pickups taking up the limited parking spaces.
