Marvin: "I am at a rough estimate thirty billion times more intelligent than you. Let me give you an example. Think of a number, any number."

    Zem: "Er, five."

    Marvin: "Wrong. You see?"

Reading the foregoing is a bit like the script of "The Big Bang Theory" a TV programme for those unfamiliar to it. I happily admit most of it sails straight over my head!

Totally inspired writing! I think that it's impossible to produce a bad adaptation of it (much like Tinker Tailor..............), be it radio, TV or film. But Alan Rickman voicing Marvin in the film was just totally perfect!

I preferred the first TV version of Hitchhikers.

Here's a 12 minute clip - but only for the initiated - of Deep Thought being posed THE QUESTION.

For the rest of you - it won't mean a thing :heehee:

The meaning of life = 42 . And the meaning of 42 is , thanks to Wiki...................
Douglas Adams was asked many times why he chose the number 42. Many theories were proposed, including the fact that 42 is 101010 inbinary code, the fact that light refracts off water by 42 degrees to create a rainbow, the fact that light requires 10−42 seconds to cross the diameter of a proton.[6] Adams rejected them all. On November 3, 1993, he gave an answer[7] on alt.fan.douglas-adams:
The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binaryrepresentations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do'. I typed it out. End of story.

                  http://www.asciitable.com/

ASCII 42 is the asterisk, widely acceped in software development to mean multiply.

I love hitchhikers. Can't believe how many memories it's holds for me. First time I listened was during my A levels when I got some cassettes, then got a MP3 version which I listened to about 12 years ago whilst decorating and last year whilst driving in Europe.

Would you believe it, I've just finished sowing a load of my new batch of seeds, went to my cupboard to get a propagator lid, and there's my missing seed box. I looked there at least twice.

It must have somehow jumped forward in time.
It's only reappeared today because we've entered a new year.
