I'm with cucamelon

Taken yesterday, I'm thinking of planting them all in clumps of 3 and leaving all 9 plants without thinning out (because I'd feel totally inadequate with only 3 Cucamelons).

 

New member here hey folks! I'm having a go with these, had 6 plants (only planted 6 seeds) but knowing how they can take over but just 2 in the greenhouse (they're sharing a pot), other four went outside to see if they can stand early May....result is they can't lol.

Will post a pic of them tomorrow.

 

I had my first fruit of the season last night

 

They want to climb so I'll plant them in a polytunnel this afternoon.

 

My one and only cucamelon is becoming very long and gangly - lots of thin runners coming off. I will repot it this week but where to place it. Currently inside my house on a sunny windowsil. No sign of any fruit yet. How big can one single plant get. I do have a short clear plastic grow home and a tall walkin green plastic grow home - would they be ok in there now?

AT present they have a thin stake - but out gowing that fast. I assume they need a stake? WOuld rather make the next move and re-staking their last to cause the least amount of disruption.

Wonderful. Thank you. How should I best progress from here? Where to plant out, size of container, stake/support? I love how wispy it is. Its trying to grab hold of everything: the melons that are next to it on the windowsil, curtains - anything. Watering/feeding?

I have no packet to refer to as a friend gave my the seed as something to try.

 

Well my cucamelon has grown and grown. Its in the plastic covered grown home. I have small fruit, tic tac sized, maybe slimmer. But they just fall off or something is eating them. Suggestions?

 

I've never grown them (!!) but having read this thread through from start to finish (banished from doing anything today, as have an infected finger cut from wrestling with a watermelon in Lidls yesterday - don't ask!), people found this problem last year, when they didn't allow insects free access for fertilisation? Not 100% sure, as hubby is insisting I apply alcohol, internally....

 

Thanks. Sorry to hear about your finger. I was at an agricultural show last week. I have insect bites, some are infected. I haven't therefore done much in the garden - plus it is raining. Back to it next week. Stacks to do.

 

I have a couple in a bucket the end of my beans row, not a sight of one yet, probably won`t bother with them again.

 

I am finding them frustrating. Constantly falling off. I won't bother again!
