Just caught up with this - I'll send you one of mine, Liz if you want.

KG - mmmm!!!! At least you'll have some!! We were looking forward to our 1st Cherry crop this year - the little tree was smothered - note the "was"!!!! As we sat in our dining room eating, we kept seeing the blackbirds turn up and flying off with the cherries!! [IMG] [IMG] By the time I got out to tie bird scarers over the tree, they had scoffed the flippin' lot!!! Its now covered with loads and loads of little stalks....... [IMG] [IMG]

Sorry to hear that HB, we had the same problem with ours. It never really fruited much and the birds helped themselves and left nothing for us. So, Hubby felled it about 5-6 years ago. Same thing with the greengage tree, but the wasps helped themselves there, so down it came too.

Hi HB and KG, Dendy very kindly contributed 2 seedlings which are growing nicely.
However I don't like to be beaten so would really appreciate some stones to try again.

I have a Morello cherry and a yellow eating one. As they are both on dwarf stock they will be small enough to net, not very glamorous but means you do get some fruit.
It is worth waiting for the tree to get big enough so that all the fruit is not eaten by the birds. I had a morello cherry in a former garden that had reached this stage after 6 years [I reckon it was coming up for 10years actual age] and my daughter has just left a house with a cherry tree about 15 years old which produced a lovely crop of fruit. The same goes for greengages- patience or a deep pocket is essential!

Hi freddy, these peaches have the same texture as yellow ones but are on the tart side. They are small, about the size of a large apricot. I always blanch and skin them, easier and quicker than peeling, as the skin is just too furry for me. Hubby sometimes eats them straight off the tree though. I make jam or preserves with them, last year I froze them and have just been making up batches as needed. Think I'll do the same this year. Our tree is about 6 meters tall, but we prune it back every year, needs a bit more off it this year after the fruit is off. You can easily keep it at about 4 meters and let it bush out, looks nicer that size actually.

You'll have to wait until someone else pops up to answer your question about a UK supplier. If you can't find one, PM me your details and I'll send you some stones in October.

Liz - how nice that Dendy shared her seedlings with you. PM me your details again and I'll send you some more stones.

Our once-were cherry and greengage trees were at least 15 years old when Hubby felled them. They were both about 6 meters tall, so too tall to get a net over them.

The fruit on our main red peach tree is ripe, about 3 weeks earlier than usual. We have given lots of fruit away to the neighbours and I have been busy making compote. Yesterday I put up 14 jars, about one pound size.

Here you see how the peaches look when they are picked and then after they have been skinned and stoned.

All I did, on onstruction, was to put them in a pot with garden soil, leave them at the bottom of my garden, and forgot them. I forgot them so well it tok me ages to find where I'd put them! :D

Hi freddy, no, Pritex in Somerset manufactured the foam, Foamtex cut the seats for the aircraft and made the seat coverings. MGR is the hardware side of it, cabin dividers, overhead lockers, seat tracking, etc.

Just thought you probably were at Bristol airport and I worked with Foamtex/MGR from late 1997 - 2001 who re-fit aircraft ... was it Brymon Airways then???
