Great timing we have had lots of crispy clear nights over the last few weeks . Now the ISS is coming in to view again its cloudy and rainy for the next week at least , I have not managed to see it yet ! :gaah: I did see an Iridium flare when we were in Anglesey , that was very impressive . The phone/tablet apps that you can download to track them are incredible . It counted down to the exact second when it was going to flare :dbgrtmb:

This is the one I use @Kristen on a Samsung android . It gives a simple graphic to show you where the ISS and Iridiums start , finish and elevation. It also has a world map to show your where the ISS is , at the moment just heading over Japan into the pacific . Its a very good for free app :dbgrtmb:
I think you can buy add ons to track other satellites.

Did anyone see Something For The Weekend this morning? Chris Hadfield was on as a guest; fascinating as well as being a helluva nice guy.

Worth a watch on 4OD if you missed it.

@Kristen have they made a boo boo tonight? Surely they mean West to East?

Yup, West-to-East tonight. The 16:20 pass is better - brighter and it goes slap-bang overhead, whereas the 18:00 pass goes from the East West low in the sky to the SW and peters out before it gets to the West.

Hmmm ... the 16:00 pass isn't listed as being visible from Battle ... I wonder why that is?

If you looked out of the West facing window ATM Kristen you can hardly seen anything - in the middle of a lively little squall.
What I pasted above was from the official NASA message this morning...:oopss:

OK, twigged it now. It thinks its still daylight Down South where you are ... I suspect that it will be dark enough (given that the 16:20 pass is a brightness of -3.2)

16:25 up here. I'm taking the big lad outside to look for it, if we see it I'm going to tell him it is Santa setting off on his rounds.

Kristen, this is what NASA says about this evening's later pass:
Time: Tue Dec 24 6:01 PM, Visible: 3 min, Max Height: 50 degrees, Appears: W, Disappears: SSE

Yes, it will be 16:25 as azimuth, but start of visible pass is 16:20-and-a-bit. Make sure you have your watches set spot-on :)

Looks like its only -2.3 brightness up your way C1, and lower in the sky. Still pretty high though ...

I reckon you are fresh-out-of-luck with the weather down South, but up on the North East coast looks to be a clear evening :)
