Unfortunately I haven't got a clue what any of that means. I have, however, been able to take my kids to 'dark skies' this summer.
We have seen skies that most townies will never see, we saw shooting stars!
    We saw whole constellations!
I love that My kids know it's all out there! They love it too :wub2:

It tells you the time you can see the International Space, in what direction [W = West, SSE = South, South East, SE = South East etc] :snorky:

which is why I love astronomy with such a passion, Loki. There's a program called "How the Universe works" that you and your kids might like, give it a try.:snorky:

I get "lost" out there when either just viewing the skies or taking images and lose track of time if there's clear skies and good seeing..........I can start at 9pm and be heading for bed at around 3am even when there's ice on the inside of the dome roof of the Observatory:doh::heehee:

Showing my youngest children the ' sky' as it should be, is probably one of the highlights of our summer! People who live in towns have no idea what the sky looks like on a clear night. To have that opportunity to show them I feel blessed and very lucky

I live on the edge of a small town with fields within 100 yards of me and the Council has been busy changing the Sodium lamps to LED which does make a difference. They've not changed over to LED for environmental reasons but for economic reasons as LED are cheaper to maintain and use less energy. They've also changed the lamp holder which restricts the spread of light and keeps it mostly downward.

Yep, people rarely look up and those that do don't realise, due to the light pollution, what would make them stop and gasp in wonder if they could see the skies as they really are.

You are truly lucky to see skies like that, most of us don't realise what it should look like.
Beautiful pictures :blue thumb: just hoping I'll get back to the country and dark skies at some point soon.:)
