    Bramble. I'm not sure that I go with C1's advice of using Glyphosate, I think you will get a better kill with SBK which is a brushwood herbicide. (I'd like to check Monsanto's site 'coz it has plenty of info on treating "difficult" weeds with Glyphosate, but its giving me errors at present)

    Looks like Berberis. Perhaps it could be hard pruned?

      Welcome to GC Europa. :) The purple shrub you have propped up looks like a Berberis.

      Cherub, size is merely relative. :grphg: Do not let space (or time) distract you. Even as a beginner gardener, you will encounter plants/shrubs/trees, that you will think: "I love that!" and will want to wade in, both barrels blazing, to grow it in your own 'turf'. Only to discover that it may not, quite, be appropriate?
      Experiment, but all means, and learn through the process, but do not become discouraged by larger gardens: they are merely an "aspiration" and not a dictation :)
