Hi Gcc. The royal family over here don't have much power though do they?? They just attract tourists i think. And how odd we have a German royal family :heehee:

Going off topic slightly, but whenever our daughter leant back in her dining chair, Mrs Scrungee & I would immediately shout "four legs good, two legs bad".

Yes. It was a bit of a bummer when Uncle Bill (Kaiser Wilhelm II) got mixed up in all that World War I mass devastation stuff. But I suppose every family has its embarrassing relatives.

The Queens side of the family are Scottish descendant! :)

The modern day Royals have very little power since the evolvement of parliament, but our Queen is still head of state and if push comes to shove she will have her say.

You only have to take a look across the 'water' to see why it's better to have a Royal family as head of state.

Yes, there are those of you who disagree with me, but history speaks for itself if you are inclined to read it. :)

Well, across the Channel 'Merkozy' seem to be joined at the hip and they seem to sing from the same songbook. :heehee:

Don't know why but I have always felt that us having a monarchy is good. I'm quite traditional like that though.

BUT, have to say I'm still no closer to understanding communism lol does anyone actually know what it is lol!? I don't think anyone who has posted on here really knows either lol?? Sorry if that last comment is unjust lol :D

You could start by reading Marx's 'The Communist Manifesto' and 'Das Kapital', Hydrogen. I'm afraid I've never ploughed through them myself in any kind of grown-up way. A long time ago I skimmed the edited highlights so I could fake enough of an understanding for the odd essay. Call it the Ladybird version, if you like. :heehee:

The Queen Mum's family spawned an impressive number of idiots, I understand. They had to be shut away in homes so that they wouldn't drool in public or shout 'knickers!' at passing proles. But that's inbreeding for you. You see exactly the same thing on the Isle of Sheppey.

I don't understand it either. All I know on that one is what I learnt from one documentary I watched.

It seems to me that in Cuba, most of the people liked the system they had, as it meant that everyone had to pull their weight, but at the same time everyone was treat as equals. On the other hand, inevitably, some people didn't like the system they had. This second group of people managed to convince the yanks that most ordinary Cubans wanted Castro dead.

The yanks, already waiting for an excuse to pick on Cuba, because Castro was ok with the Russians, which meant he was to be treated with suspicion by the yanks, decided that it would be ok to take Cuba by force if they could say it was what the Cuban people wanted.

According to the subtitles I read at the bottom of the screen as an old Cuban bloke stood on a beach talking Spanish at the camera, the yanks launched an amphibious assault on a small bay in Cuba. Allegedly, taking cover behind upturned wooden fishing boats and firing outdated rifles at the landing crafts, a handful of untrained men fended off the might of the US military, and the Cubans and Castro lived happily ever after.

However, I feel sure that I haven't got the full picture.
