Is gardening an art form?

    Why would I hate it? It sounds exactly like mine. What I was saying above was that gardening can be an art form but I was referring mainly to how you position the plants, the combinations of colour and so on, plus the other things you might put into a garden. Allowing things to assume a natural flow would be part of this. What I am reacting against is the negative form of gardening, predominant nowadays, whereby everything is a quick fix, lots of ripping things out, pesticides, and formal schemes designed to be carbon copies of everyone else's garden.

    Excuse ME! when I cut grass it is an art form. I do circles around the many trees then one big one to tie them together in a circle mosaic fashion. when you stand back and look its pretty.

      That pretty much sums up my gardening style too @shiney. Much of the time I just carry out selective removal of plants which threaten to dominate or simply look 'wrong' in that position (to my eye), and let nature decide and design where it wants things to be.

      To me, the art is in deciding what to remove and what to leave in order to create an overall appearance and ambience which is pleasing to the eye and the senses.
