    Is religion wrong?

    Of course it is.
Its how you live your life and what you do during that life that counts.

Putting that into a category is pointless.

And also causes a lot of problems.

    The Council of Nicaea

(for those not in the know, this was when the early church debated on the nature of Jesus and his relationship to God. Yes, debated and made their decision, which the Christian Church has based its teachings and beliefs on ever since!).

and it is sad that the final outcome was in opposition to the bible , the bible does not teach THE TRINITY and now many have been misled by it, even getting to think that the bible teaches that manmade docrtine.

yes much falsehood has been spread by false religious teachers , and now people even think the falsehood is truth.

I am just SO pleased nobody mentioned Spiritualism, because far too many are under the apprehension WE talk to the deceased, while in fact it is the other way round, but then we leave it to the individual to ask us about it, NOT bring it to your door, or the street.

As I tell ANY caller from a religous group, OR any of those preaching in the street, IF I want religion, I will go to a church for it. I do NOT need it brought to my door, or preached to me in the street.

Saw this thread a few days ago. Wanted to have time to read it.
Is religion wrong? Because we simply have the desire to have a God is evidence that there is a God.
In many of the religions made by man, organized by man there is one similarity, that there is that one being that is so powerful he/she can do anything when and if he/she wants.
But because we, humans have been given "free will" we can decide how to organize/structure ourselves to pray/serve/interact with this God. And that is where the issues lie. The person with the loudest voice the most convincing statements can and has started his/her own religion. Perhaps an off shot of another, but still another. We, humans don't even need religion as a basis to follow someone, just look at history of leaders (Hitler) who led multitudes down his path.

Is religion wrong? Man for ages has sought God. Man has tried to figure out what it is God wants of him, what he needs to do to be viewed by God as special, so that God will answer his needs. So in this quest Man develops whatever he can to get these answers. And that is man interpretation of what ever messages he "believes" he is getting from God.
As a believer in the Bible as historical accounting of God's presence in the life of his people (the old testament), and the new testament showing the life of Jesus the son of God. And yes, the books were written by man. And in its original language of its scrolls we trust that the wording is "correct" in our language. What runs clearly in the new testament is a way to conduct our life. And as we conduct our life in a Christ like manor we then become closer to God. And that we believe that Jesus is the son of God, who died on the cross for our sins.
The Bible states we humans were born in sin and for our sin to be forgiven we are to believe in the son of God, Christ Jesus. John 3:16, for God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believed in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For me the Bible is all I have to help me understand God. But, my God is beyond the Bible.
Is Religion wrong? But of course it was developed by man and man is not perfect. At the same time people want to belong to something, they like to feel a part of a group of like minded people. Why are we as a group on this forum, because we are all have an interest in gardening. So man organizes a group that worships a God and they call it a Religious group.

Would love to write an essay but I think short and simple will suffice:

    Each to their own.

Completely agree, but would also add - don't try converting me!

Thing is, the two major religions of the world today, Christianity and Islam, are both evangelical in their nature, so they try to do just that.

its interesting that many say dont come knocking at my door , yet the last thing that Jesus commanded his followers to do was to GO
    MATTHEW 28;19-20

while I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house. ACTS 20;20

The early christians did it that way , and they listened to Jesus and what he taught
    luke 9;35

And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.ACTS 5;42

and JEHOVAHS WITNESSES are still remaining faithful to Jesus and his commands

they are doing the will of God by doing the following thing in matthew 24;14
    where it says ,

And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. matthew 24;14

they have not lost their focus, but they are up to date with bible prophecies , and they are making known all about that kingdom .

by the way , THE END spoken of here IN MATTHEW 24;14 is not refering to the end of the world as many religions teach, but it is talking about the end of manmade goverments and rulerships ,and soon only GODS HEAVENLY KINGDOM
will be ruling, without the interferance of manmade goverments .
    :gnthb:

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite; Daniel 2;44

yes those kings mentioned in Daniel 2;44
    are manmade rulerships and goverments,

and soon they will be gone for good:)

I'm with Aaron, pip and John :thumb:

I have signed up with the Telephone Preference Service to because I don't want unsolicited telephone calls. If it was possible I would sign up to the Doorknocking Preference Service. Fortunately, I live far enough out of the way for me never to have had evangelists call in the 37 years I have lived here :gnthb:

I have no objection to this thread as I can always ignore it if I wish. So I am quite happy for anyone to preach what they believe as long as it is not offensive to a reasonable person. :)

I am sure that the moderators are keeping a close eye on what is being said and feel sorry for them if they find it a bit boring :snz:

I am confident in my own belief and morality and don't wish to preach it to others. :flag:

I have Jehovahs witnesses at the door all the time, and Mormons and the like. I don't mind if they knock on-they are never offensive or rude, they just want me to take the leaflets from them and have a read. If that's how they want to spend their afternoons then that's fine by me-it's their life. A simple thanks but no thanks get's rid and I can get on with my life.

Shiney-I wish you luck with the preferred caller system-it lasted about 4 mths with me and it started again.

By far the worst callers I get are betterware distributors-they shove a catalogue through your door-without being invited to do so ever, and come back in four or so days demanding I find their catalogue for them-in this mad house???? They're lucky I haven't already shredded it and put it in the compost-but that's going off the subject.

    Banana Suit on....

ATTENTION heathens and those that would be saved....As much as I am enjoying looking up every 'bible' verse posted in this thread, can we please remain within the realms of discussing 'religion' at a macro level rather than bordering on the edge of trolling via preaching. Non Gardening Discussion is NOT a platform to market your religious/political or indeed sexual testimony whatever your particular peculiarity. There are more suitable sites should you wish to broaden/share your soul enhancing knowledge....

    Overt your eyes please !!!
