Well said BM :yho:. Points of view are always welcome but preaching is less so. :flag:

Lollipop, when I used to live in a town we got regular callers and, as you say, the evangelists were always polite. If I had time I would chat to them but I felt it was a bit like demanding you see their view - with menaces. If I don't follow their way of thinking I will go to the lower place :) no matter how good I am or how many good deeds I do.

I just feel pity for them but admire their strength in their faith. I don't wish to be a sheep, I am not a sheep :hehe:. Shades of Animal Farm  :hehe: :flag:

I have been signed up to the TPS for years and rarely get unsolicited calls - and when I do I then report them. You can't stop the hard-sell calls from overseas. We have three lines at home and two are signed up. We probably get no more than one a month on the signed up lines but at least two or three a week on the other one. I can then use that third line to release any frustrations :rotfl:. A good ploy if they are a call centre wanting to arrange for a rep to call is to first of all say no. If they persist and don't take the hint then make an appointment for them to come round. Then when they turn up I am either out or tell them I are not interested. When they ask why I made the appointment I tell them that I had originally said no but when that didn't work it was the easiest way to get rid of them. Other times I just put the receiver on the table and get on with what I was doing. They eventually catch on :)

With the catalogues we used to receive - they never got them back because they were always good to use for lighting the fire. :D

Whoops! I just realised that I'm not as much of a goody-goody as I thought :lollol::lollol:

I wouldn't worry too much Shiney-I reckon him upstairs has bigger fish to fry.

Good point you raise about the term sheep.

There was once a great philosopher who had a great deal to say about "herds".

To be made to feel that you are excluded from paradise for not purchasing their brand of hocus pocus isn't very christian is it? And hardly coincidental that salesmen also use buzzwords and sickeningly cliched catchphrases like "having your brain washed".

I think you were referring to "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others". Good point, well made. Although I think it was originally referring to communism vs capitalism its still apt.

Erm, BM where is the sexual testimony? I must have missed that one-darn.

Religion doesn't cause problems. People cause problems, when they deliberately interpret religious teachings in a way that suits them.

What does it matter whether you believe God is called Allah or Jehova or The Flying Spaghetti Monster (I didn't make that up by the way - look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster).

Without knowing the intracies of every religion, I believe the general concensus is that they all teach us peace and a set of moral guidelines. Though Shalt Not Kill for example. We must remember that the Christian Church was responsible for horrendous attrocities over the centuries, with young women being executed in the most horrific ways, and entire nations of 'heretics' being invaded and conquered. All this despite the fact that, as far as I recall, there is nothing in the bible that tells us to kill anyone. In fact if I recall, it specifically teaches us to be kind and forgiving to others, regardless of religion or creed etc.

Lolli,I have a Betterware catalogue that was delivered sometime last night. You ought to do what I do and just put it back on the doorstep and then they can come round on the date written or circled on the paper inside and can pick it up as and when they so wish.If I take it indoors to have a read and then frget to put it back outside then it gets shredded up and composted or it goes in my recycling bin, whichever comes first:D

We are on that telephone Preference Service and still occassionaly get phone calls from people that can't speak proper English and I just tell them the same as I tell the door sales people that I am blonde and that there is no point in talking to me as being a blonde we don't know nuffink. That usually does the trick:hehe:

I did hear talk on our local radio station that the Preferance Service ban only lasts twelve months and it then has to be renewed again, but being blonde I am not sure if that is right or whether it has changed since I heard it.:)

I was taught at Sunday School that Good Deeds will never get anyone into the Kingdom of Heaven, only those that Believe in Jesus Christ Our Lord....Amen:)

One last question from me May and then that is enough because I am getting bored with all your quotes.

If God created everything, then he must have created Lucifer, the fallen Angel, the Devil etc,in which case he must have got something wrong somewhere down the line for him to create a being that turned against him and who has gone down to Hell to welcome all the sinners of the world where we shall all spend eternity. Now then you can't blame man for Lucifer turning against God so someone or something somewhere must have put the bad thoughts and ideas into his head for him to turn against God.

In which case I don't see why I and all my fellow human beings be judged on the great day of judgement because of someones cock up so to speak.

In the 70's when I didn't know any better I was persuaded by a friend of mine to join one of these religious groups which I did for a couple of years, but left after being told umpteen times that I and everyone on this planet was a sinner and if we didn't repent our ways Iwe were going to go down to Hell and suffer for all eternity etc etc.Talk about bible thumping.I used to jump up 3ft in the air whenever he thumped the bible down and shouted his sermon.

We were never allowed to watch the TV on a Sunday,or listen to the radio,no wearing of trousers,{but how was I supposed to ride a horse with a skirt on?}no drinking, smoking, swearing etc and we also had to give a share of our wages each week as a Tyth{spelling} and had to wear a hat whenever we went into their church rooms. The only good part I liked was going away to their assemblies camp near Leicester and sleeping in a large tent for a week:)

I am glad that I saw the error of my ways and decided that if I must go down to Hell after I die then at least I will be in the company of all my friends and family,so at least I won't be all on my lonesome and got away from them as fast as my little legs coiuld take me.:D
