    The difference between friesian and holstein cows is relatively simple. In general, friesians tend to be more black than white, whilst with holsteins it's the other way round - they tend to be slightly smaller too.

    Oh lordy, don't tell me everyone is going to start rushing out and buying 'mini' cows - I recall not so long ago a 'fashion' for Vietnamese pot bellied pigs.

    If you think it's a pain taking the dog for a walk in the rain, then you certainly don't want to take on looking after a cow, unless of course you like the thought of ....

    Milking every day - even when the temperature is 10 below and there's 3' of snow, or you'd rather be on holiday
    Building and maintaining something other than a post and wire fence around your garden
    Buying a decent sized shed for your cow to live in during the winter and store winter feed
    Enjoy mucking out said 'housing' arrangements and have somewhere to put the muck
    Cows drink a lot, you'll need to have a big drinking trough, break through the ice several times a day or ensure it doesn't become stagnant in the summer.
    Buy in feed when your grass dies
    Keep it's feet in good order
    Pay for the TB testing
    Face the bill for getting the Vet to come out (in the snow) at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning.

    Suddenly a hundred quid for a decent lawnmower and £1.68 for 2L of organic milk seems a much more sensible proposition than 'Ooooh, wouldn't it be nice to have a pet cow.'

      Thanks for the information that's kinda what I wanted to know. (sounds like you have had a cow at some point). Maybe I need to just get a job on a farm coz I'd quite like a few alpaca too haha!

      :heehee::heehee: Lol.

      The only think that makes me think perhaps cross fresian is the ruddiness round the front of the cow in the first picture but otherwise yes definitely Fresian. Used to love to walk the herds of mixed cows when I was a child with the local farmer. All his cows had names like Buttercup, Mary and Angela. It was lovely for kids in the country then.:dbgrtmb:
