Funnily enough, I was just thinking the same thing earlier. I was also thinking that if I'd be the torch bearer and had seen that, I'd instantly go from being overwhelmed with pride to overwhelmed with shame to have anything to do with it, and I'd have just placed the torch on the floor and walked away.
