Thank you, @Spruce - it got a good chop when I moved in and it is flourishing at the moment. I'll wait for the rain to stop and then attack it with Round-up and a black bag. :dbgrtmb:

@Bilbo675 - that's a good point about it being attractive to wildlife :blue thumb: I plan on replacing it with a honeysuckle, and maybe a clematis, which should be of consolation to the bees/moths etc.

Regular repeat doses of round up from as soon as it starts showing new growth next spring, until its well and truly dead.

Not sure round up, (glyphosate) will be very effective at this time of the year.
A fork and shovel might be better.

Ordinarily, I think you would be quite right ... however, the weather at the moment is doing strange things to plants. It's predicted we'll get a sweep of warmer weather coming in by the weekend too.
I'll go the belt and braces route: I'll give the glyphosate/bin liner a go (after giving it a severe chop). I can repeat that Autumn "dressing" as and additional treatment for a Spring "dressing" - if by summer 2015 it is still persisting .... I'll get out the fork/spade and .... hand them to Mr "M" ;) :heehee:

@"M" if it still has leaves on it give it a go now. I wouldn't attempt to dig it up, if you leave roots in the ground it's likely to re-shoot.

Thanks @Sheal - it does indeed have leaves and they are growing .... by the minute ( :roflol: ) especially with all the rain and mild weather we are having

Maybe, but not that strange. I used round up about 3 weeks ago, and its had some but very limited success. I'd save my money til spring, when round up will be far more effective.

                  Hi M
I think it will work well using now as the plant is slowing down for winter and draws the sap down into the plants so will the chemical start to work they use this time of year to treat Japanese Knotweed
