At the moment out of my mix of around 21/23 shrub and climbing roses I only have Madame Alfred Carriere
        [IMG]
        Rose Compassion[IMG]
        and Rose Alchemist in flower

What is it that makes us fall in love with a particular rose?:dunno: I normally only buy roses that have a scent and are repeat flowering types. But, on building the Arbour I went to the late great Geoff Hamiliton's Barnsdale Nursery looking for roses to go around the sides. Woo had already recommended Rose Compassion to me and I saw it in flower at Barnsdale and decided it was the rose for me. But Alchemist was a real surprise because, when wandering through a small area at Barnsdale, I came to a trellised exit/entrance that was "dripping" with the flowers of Alchemist. I didn't even know the name of the rose when I first saw it but, and I'm sure everyone has felt the same with some plant, I knew it was the rose! I "dug" around the base of the rose and found a metal label giving the name. Now Rose Alchemist only has a very light scent and doesn't repeat flower, so why did I buy it despite that? The only thing I can think of, and I know it sounds daft, is that in the half light of the Trellis Entrance the flowers just "talked" to me and I knew it was the perfect rose for the Arbour.:hapydancsmil:
Has anyone else done that with a rose?:snorky:
