    Lanced it and a temporary filling for the infection. Had a splint fitted and fingers crossed the broken root may heal. Will require multiple checks, but the tooth itself is a good one.

        Not pain free, but yes I am more comfortable.
        This is why I waited for my dentist. Most would have hoiked it out, but he saw another way.

            LongK - so sorry to have just read of your troubles. I have only had toothache about once and its a most terrible thing.

            You should have chewed on some of those Brugmansia seeds that you have been growing. [IMG]

              :yikes::gaah::runforhills::thud:

              I have every faith in him. He made it clear that this is a 50/50 shot. Told me the cost if it works, or a token charge if not. If it goes than I'm considering fixed implants.

              Fell asleep on the sofa about 8 and I've just woke up with t/ache at 2.20am. Not a huge pain though, and I don't get six hours when I haven't got toothache! Plus my next antibiotic was due at 2.12 am anyway.

              Lucky git! :heehee:

              :nonofinger:Even by my recent standards of self medication that would be extreme!:hate-shocked:

                I feel much better now thanks! The splint feels a bit odd though!

                Yeah, but it was only on a par with a broken metatarsal and easily sorted by the painkillers.
                I know that the pain will be ongoing for a while though due to the course of action that we have taken.

                  Isn't it interesting how our mind/body responds to pain: if it is acute, unexpected and (seemingly) never ending - it feels intolerable (and probably is! I'm not downplaying it for a moment)
                  However, once our mind knows positive action is being taken and there is a potential end in sight ... it becomes that bit more bearable.
                  @longk - do not let Zigs and Jiffy lead you down the road of iniquity ... no matter how much they tempt you to "pull" ...

                  ... remember your marriage vows! ;)

                    Update;
                    My absolute god of an Indian dentist saved the tooth - the broken root and the tooth knitted back together as a broken bone does :hapydancsmil:
                    Cost? A little over £400 for root canal, splints, temporary filling, three further x-rays and then when he was satisfied the removal of the splint and a permanent filling. Sue has just paid her dentist £600 for root canal on one tooth - she's rather miffed :heehee:

                      That's brilliant news Longk. :dbgrtmb: A dentist to hold on to, well not to tightly. It sounds like Sue needs to change her dentist. :)

                      I'm lucky to have him as he only deals with the Asian community. A few years ago I was on the waiting list to have a tooth removed under general anaesthetic but the pain was severe so a friend of mine (a prominent member of the local Asian community) called his dentist and asked for a favour. The next day I went to him and two and a half hours later the tooth was out - no general, not even a stitch needed! As a favour to my friend he has kept me on as a patient.

                      Not really. Her dentist is highly regarded locally and what she paid is only a tad over the going rate around here if you're private.
