Seen this a few times in the past, squish them and all is well.

Well best of luck with your squishing.
The grubs are minuscule. If you fumble the squish, they will shoot out of the web and back into the partially open leaf bud faster than a racing snake.

I grow my Hostas in pots every year placing them on gravel , the snails don’t like it ,but the odd one breaks through and I am ready ,I also have a ring of flattened copper pipe around the base of the pot.
It has been a good year for Hostas and for slugs and snails.

I just have one mature Hosta (which has a few bites out but generally looks ok) as any smaller ones are instant slug food.

My version of this thread would be for Lupins. I cosseted one I bought this year in a pot until it flowered and now it’s in the ground it has slugged leaves and some aphids on the flower. Rubbish.

Yes, me too. Love lupins, but the anguish of trying to keep them alive was unbearable.

            Oh dear!
I have just bought some mini hostas for my daughter as a birthday present to replace one she lost to slugs. They are adorable, and pricey. I love the idea of hostas in pots on gravel, I shall try it for myself and suggest it to my daughter. Mine have been in pots for some years, standing in saucers, no deterrent to slugs. I am also giving her a bag of grit and a tub of slug pellets as part of her present. I can but try to help.
