    Hmmmm, are you sure of that, Dave?? :scratch::snork: One of the consistent complaints of 8 is that it is not intuitive and users are getting frustrated by getting "lost" in it:gaah::heehee:

    What I meant is "not see a difference" in speed when "thunking" to 32 bits.
    As for getting lost, I'm lost as soon as I click on the "START" button if I can find it. :dunno: :heehee:

        Urrrgh!!. As I'm the 'techie' of the family/neighbourhood I am constantly getting PC Helpdesk like phone calls asking to get people sorted or getting them out of pickles with Windows 8 (despite me telling all and sundry not to 'upgrade' to sad excuse for an OS) , so am so sick of it :paladin:

        This video always makes me laugh and reflects my feelings exactly (beware NSFW and swear words)


        Windows 7 is king!

              You've just got to commiserate with the guy, GG, and feel for him!!! It's probably a mirror reflection of how I would feel and behave........not that I swear of course.:nonofinger::hate-shocked::heehee: I just don't understand why Microsoft when from a successful style of OS to one that is driving everyone crazy and Microsoft's credibility into the Sewer:dunno:

              Agreed, awful piece of technology. Though Micro$oft have had some garbage releases in the past in ME and Vista, though not such an epic fail as 8. My theory is that they had a teenage temp in making the decisions at the time of the 8 release. I've heard 8 is going to be phased out pretty sharpish and Windows X is on the way, dear me, more 'upgrading' fun and games to come then ...

              My route has been 95, then 2000 Pro (marvellous), XP (very good), then 7 (fab) so have avoided the other releases like the plague.

                Microsoft is well know for getting one right and messing up the next one:

                DOS - very good for non-GUI O.S.
                3.1 - rubbish
                3.11 - good (for it's time)
                95 - rubbish
                98 - good
                ME - absolute c%!$
                2K - good
                Vista - let's not even go there
                Then they got lucky and hit two in a row that were good XP and 7
                8 - need I say more?
                X - let's see, can't be worse then 8 surely.

                  GG....... that's the first time I've seen the desktop display for '8' and it looks more like an advertising board to me. My son bought a new computer earlier in the year and described '8' as interesting although frustrating. He seems to have mastered it but told me I wouldn't stand a hope of getting my head round it. So should I need to change my computer in the near future I'll either stick with '7' or wait for the new release and see what that's like.

                  Has anyone any idea on what sort of set up 'X' will be? Hopefully nothing like '8'.

                    The Next Windows OS
                    Microsoft will call the new version "Windows 9" to distance itself from Windows 8, which is "tanking," Thurrot said.

                    Windows 8.1 is running on fewer than 25 million PCs, which he called a "disaster."

                    Microsoft will not provide developers with an early alpha release of "Threshold" at the Build conference because the product will not be in development until later in April, Thurrot said.

                    Maturing and fixing the Metro design language will be a major focus area in Threshold, noted Thurrot, who speculated that it will include a windowed mode for desktops.

                    Microsoft will deliver three milestone releases of Threshold before the final release, he added.

                    "At this point, there is a lot of speculation and guessing and not much known fact," Wes Miller, an analyst at Directions on Microsoft, told TechNewsWorld.

                    However, "I don't expect Microsoft to walk from the big bets they've made with Windows 8.x -- the Start screen and the modern UI -- regardless of name," he continued.



                    "There has been a structural adjustment in application platforms where developer interest has shifted over to tablets and phones," Al Hilwa, a program director at IDC, told TechNewsWorld.

                    Still, there's hope for Microsoft -- if it can lure programmers to write for it. There are 18.5 million software developers worldwide, 11 million of whom are professionals, IDC has estimated. However, the number of hobbyist developers is growing because of the popularity of mobile platforms.

                    Possible Additions to Windows
                    Speculation is rife about the new features that might emerge in the next version of the Windows OS.

                    "The main things I expect to see in a future version of Windows are tighter integration with Windows Server, perhaps some bending to accommodate desktop users, and continued movement towards one development platform across Windows Phone and Windows," Directions on Microsoft's Miller said. He ruled out the return of the Start menu.

                    On that point, there's still considerable debate, however.

                    The traditional Start button will be back, Pund-IT's King predicted.

                    Further, Microsoft might change the way common files and applications are located and accessed, he suggested. "One rumor is that the Metro startup screen in Windows 8 will become a file or folder on a traditional startup screen." [​IMG]

                    It does seem that M$ have done a good job of shoving 8 down the throats of consumers. My brother is after a new laptop and after he'd done a bit of looking about (not allowed by buy without my approval!) said only laptops with 8 are available (usual high street outlets etc) and the salespeople are primed to punt 8 only. @Sheal if you are looking about sooner than the new successor to 8 is available (or even then!) www.dabs.co.uk do a fair range of Win7 laptops/boxes, and a few other places.

                        We've still got xp and although it is a little slow, its fine for us at the moment. No doubt there will come a time when we'll have to upgrade, but at the moment we can't afford to so the little mice will just have to keep turning the wheel :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
