£5 is a bargain, that's less than a gallon of paraffin! Whatever it's suitable for, it'll be worth it.

Looks terrific Jack. Daughter goes to the Balbirnie gym and I've been to the hotel a couple of times. If I wasn't lucky enough to have plenty space here I'd be fighting for an Allotment space. As it is with your allotment being walled and you can have a decent space in a heated greenhouse for a fiver I can feel a green tinge creeping over me! You are sure to have great results, delighted for you.

Wow, you have very good facilities and it's so cheap too. Definitely go for the greenhouse space too for £5/year.

yeah, I was a bit gobsmacked! but its standard allotment fee for council allotments with water in Sheffield, 300sqft with water supply.

Mine is £35 a year with water supply & 2 skips a year. I think £112 is extortianate :th scifD36:

I didn't realise rentals varied by so much. My full sized plot is £52/year including mains water but not much else, just use of communal lawnmowers and an 'organic' loo :)

I guess that should read 300sq yds which would be a standard full sized plot?

I have not yet got my keys
The plot is a half plot, and I am not allowed any structure over one metre tall ( So that rules out my runner beans)
No gas canisters allowed, so it will have to be a flask unless I can sneak a camping gas stove in :-)
After one year and I have proved I can maintain the plot then I can take a full plot that allows fruit cages but not poly tunnels, a small greenhouse is allowed, council check every three months that the site is in a good state of growing or off you pop

I have spent the last week getting my tools in good condition, Linseed oil on my old and neglected hoes/rakes etc and painted the shafts of all other tools dark blue gloss
Sharpened all blades etc ready to go
I have bought stainless steel fork and spade, but will not introduce them to the site until I know it is safe (it should be as it is surrounded by 20' walls and 20' steel gate)
The boss explained to me that most of the sheds did not have locks, as it would indicate nothing worth stealing, where others had Fort Knox security on them, (so the theft would appear to be by fellow allotmenteers ?)

I get to visit the boss again on Tuesday after her holiday in Greece for my keys and payment

The Government set rate for allotments is 15p per square yard maximum per year

I pay a lot less than that though I have a compulsory £5 to the allotment club delivered manure and library and £10 deposit on a key that allows access to the Road (post in road) Toilets, main gate, green house, and club room

The white post at the bottom left corner is the standing water pipe, The weeds are just on the surface and can be hand pulled, so I intend to start that tomorrow
As you can see it is pretty clean

I inherited the spring cabage, leeks , spring onions and garlic

                        I am on my way

That looks great! The idea of an allotment, or at least a veg patch, is growing on me.
