      Rained off again today
All manure is dug in though, just turning over as grand kids made a patio of the soil

Old local has spoken to me, reckons the only cabbage worth while here are Savoy and to protect from pidgeons
He gave me a dozen large carrots, and a few pounds of runner beans

We have a "Please take" corner, and someone has placed two compost bins, I do not really need one as waste is put into a large skip which the council remove then replace with a skip of compost

      I have a problem here !
Other councils have their compost on sale at 50p a large bag (As heated to high degree's)
Our council does not as there compost is not heated to a high enough temperature for private use on gardens, yet they are providing it free to allotments ?
So just how safe is it to use on consumable VEG ?

Well the council can't provide something that is unsafe, there is a standard (BSI PASS 100) for composted material. Without that standard all they are providing is "food waste" and I wouldn't touch it, after all people put any old stuff in their bins.

Spent a few hours through the week, basically raking and hoeing, just for something to do really and show face
The pigeons have decimated my winter greens, so I will have to try and net the half that remain

I got my garlic, red onions and white onions in, the locals advise me the pigeons also pull out these as they grow
Seems I will have to get more nets than a fishing fleet

One of the allotmenteers gave me a few pounds of fresh tatties, they were full size ones but cooked tasted just like Jersey Royals, a delicious dinner was had

            That's looking brilliant :blue thumb:

I don't think 'structures' refers to growing plants that are grown as climbers as long as what they are growing up is not a permanent structure. Even if it does include runner bean frames there is an easy way around it :)

Just a word of warning regards kick boards, you need to be careful when carrying things as your vision may be obscured. Tripping over them is not uncommon! :noidea:

Frames for netting to keep pigeons out (or cabbage butterflies etc.) can be made easily from canes and 'build-a-ball' type connectors.

            http://www.harrodhorticultural.com/build-a-ball-connectors-12-pack-pid7577.html

            (Other makes available.)

You can also use cloche hoops

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/Selections-08759-Cloche-Hoops-3/dp/B004ORZ2XU

Cloche hoops limit the height you can grow things, ball connectors allow you any height and are only limited by the height of the canes used. I don't think 'structures' would refer to these frames either, as they are not permanent.

It has been dull, dark, foggy and raining all day, BUT my day has been FABULOUS :-)

I have been stressed and distressed, for several weeks fighting a company, I asked
@shiney for some valuable advice, and ding it was sorted in twelve hours
                WHAT UTTER RELIEF

This afternoon, I was summoned for tea with the Allotment commimtee after the
inspectors had visited last week :-(

Surprise surprise, I have been given a full 10 pole plot, it is in a bit of a state and needs
a lot of work (The previous user was keen for three years, but has not been back since March/April when he planted half of it with potatoes and some beans,
The potatoes have had their haulms cut down but the spuds are still in the ground
The inspectors had the council strim the whole plot so weeds here I come

I had just completed working my small plot that I only got in September, though
pigeons have decimated all twenty spring cabbage and thirty leeks damn

I go tomorrow to remove the kick boards and bark path I laid two weeks ago, as you
have to leave the plot as found for the next tenant
Still I am happy, yes work which is fine as I had got to the stage with my little plot that
I had nothing to visit for, no weeds and all dug over

Friday I start on my new plot, which is plot 23 on the map it comes with a new shed
(last plot had a lockup chest for tools, which was fine unless it rained then I had to run
                home,)
This one I inherit all the tools that have been left, and I can just go in and have a brew

Oh I also have the sites water supply at my door :-)

I hope to get some pics if the rain lays off and the fog lifts

                          WOW Jack!

Well that was a quick "Proving ground" period, congrats on the new plot !

You mentioned no structure over 1 metre tall, yet I see new fence panels, fruit cages and greenhouses, so I am fairly certain runnel bean poles will be fine, I guess you need to clarify that.

                          Great looking plot though.

                          Steve...:)
